Delighted to finally share the trailer for How To Tell A Secret. We are releasing in select cinemas from December 1st to coincide with World AIDS day. Please come and join us at the cinema!
Robbie Lawlor was diagnosed with HIV at 21 and became one of the youngest people to come out on Irish television. Enda McGrattan, also known as Veda, promised to keep their HIV status a secret but eventually broke free with a song. And a group of Irish and migrant women, who cannot show their faces, found creative ways to have their voices heard. In this powerful hybrid documentary, directors Anna Rodgers and Shaun Dunne use documentary, performance and genre blurring storytelling techniques to communicate a powerful message of what it is like to live with HIV in Ireland today. The film also includes a dramatic tribute to Thom McGinty, aka The Diceman.
How To Tell A Secret was directed by Anna Rodgers & Shaun Dunne and produced by Zlata Filipovic for Invisible Thread Productions. Music for the film was scored by Michael Fleming and Hugh Rodgers, Eleanor Bowman was the director of photography and it was edited by Paul Mullen. This film was made as part of the Reel Arts award with The Arts Council of Ireland.

REPOST • @irelandinmunich The Embassy and Consulates General of Ireland in Germany are proud to announce a screening tour of the Irish documentary film How To Tell A Secret by @invisiblethreadfilms .
A powerful examination of the experiences of people who are living with HIV in Ireland today, How to Tell A Secret, directed by Anna Rodgers @annarodgers and @shaundunnagram Shaun Dunne, is a hybrid documentary film (99 mins) which uses storytelling and art to try to dismantle the stigma around a HIV diagnosis that still persists in society. Winner of Best Documentary Film at the Irish Film Festival London, the film focuses on the U=U message; that on effective medication, HIV is undetectable and untransmittable.
We are also thrilled to announce that two of the film’s protagonists, renowned Irish HIV activists and creators of the Poz Vibe podcast, Robbie Lawlor @robbielwr and Enda McGrattan/Veda Lady @vedalady will travel to Germany and join us for a discussion and Q&A after each screening!
This promises to be a powerful tour, so secure your tickets now for the Munich screening via the link in our bio. For tickets to the Frankfurt and Berlin screenings, please visit @irelandinmunich@irelandinfrankfurt and @irlembberlin .

Wonderful news that our film HOW TO TELL A SECRET is touring Germany for Pride in June screening in Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich. Dr. Robbie Lawlor and Enda McGrattan are attending to speak about their stories, the film and their groundbreaking podcast Poz Vibes. Great that the message of our film is continuing to reach wide audiences and spread the U=U message. U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable) means people living with HIV on effective treatment with an undetectable viral load cannot sexually transmit the virus. @tozlic@annarodgers@shaundunnagram@vedalady@robbielwr@laurenlarkin10@evajanegaffney Jade Jordan @michaelflemingcomposer@hughrodgersmusic@mikeinireland_@artscouncilireland@eleanorbowmandp

We have a special bonus episode for you today! Morgan spoke with filmmaker Anna Rodgers about her short film, “Grace,” which had its U.S. and international premiere at the Cleveland International Film Festival. The film follows a young woman named Grace who has an intellectual disability as she navigates her relationships with her family, her carers, and her boyfriend Tommy. The film explores disability and sexuality largely through Grace’s perspective. It is a thought-provoking film which sensitively examines these experiences. In their conversation, Morgan and Anna discuss Anna’s start in film, moving into the narrative filmmaking space, and initial reactions to “Grace.” Episode is available now wherever you listen to podcasts!
NEW FILM INTERVIEW - LINKS IN BIO: Official Selection Cleveland International Film Festival. GRACE follows a woman in her late twenties with Down Syndrome as she navigates adulthood, independence, and her first serious romantic relationship. As Grace (Fiadhnait Canning) grows closer to her boyfriend Tommy, their relationship is met with hesitation from those around them, who continue to make decisions on their behalf believing they are acting in their best interest. As she begins to find her voice, Grace pushes back against these constraints, challenging long-held assumptions about her capacity and autonomy to define her own life.
The film is grounded in the context of Ireland’s Assisted Decision-Making Act 2015, enacted in 2023, which affirms that all adults have the right to make decisions about their own lives. Through Grace’s journey, the film reflects a broader societal shift toward autonomy, dignity, and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities especially when it comes to romantic experiences.
Making her screen debut, Fiadhnait Canning is a 28-year-old woman with Down Syndrome, an advocate, and a public speaker on inclusion and disability. She holds a certificate in Psychology from Yale University and is the author of In My Own Words. Her co-star Luca Malocco Mulville is also an actor with an intellectual disability and performs the role of the boyfriend Tommy in his first on screen role.
This is one of most powerful short films I have ever seen. The depth of story and the depth of conversation this film brings to the forefront is something we can no longer ignore.
Our world lacks empathy and it lacks understanding, because many people today live by assumptions, stereotypes and are unwilling to listen and learn.
The film is beautiful on every level. The story, the acting, the cinematography, the music score, but more importantly, its message to the world. Just because your different, you deserve the same level of love and respect.
