Happy international women's day!
Couple of days ago, my book A Woman’s Work has been deposited in the collection of the National Library of Ireland which means that the stories of the women featured in the project are now preserved as part of Ireland’s national archive 🤍.
When I started photographing these women almost ten years ago, I simply wanted their experiences to be seen and heard. Knowing that their stories will now be part of the country’s cultural record is quite powerful and humbling.

Brave and beautiful. Ola, Thandi, @deborah__o.blankson Janet, @mammi_shawn and @gatege_4 - lone mothers living in Ireland, who have moved on from Direct Provision.
This video and photography project was made collaboratively with @actionaidireland and @cillian.quinn.1
It's celebrating dignity and empowering the voices of women who wanted to share their stories to help shape a fairer Ireland, and make sure that what they went through does not happen again.
You can watch all the videos on my website (link in bio).
Grateful to the women for their trust and to ActionAid Ireland for supporting storytelling that listens first.
It was a lot of fun meeting these women. Also a lot of reflections and conversations about home, belonging and motherhood.
Together we created videos and photographs for an @actionaidireland project celebrating lone parents who have experienced the Direct Provision system.
The photography exhibition "Meet Them" is open this week from Wednesday in @flux_dublin
Each portrait is accompanied by guide written by the women themselves.
The public conversation about migration in Ireland is often framed through statistics and policy debates rather than through people’s lived experiences and this exhibition is a response to that absence.

The Southcity Grassroots brochure is finally here!!
Inside you will find the stories of groups from Dublin South City who give their time, their energy, and their love to make Dublin greener and more welcoming.
Their work is inspiring, but it’s also a reminder that volunteers shouldn’t be expected to carry this responsibility alone. Broader recognition and stronger systems of support are needed.
Dublin South City Partnership is proud to stand alongside these groups, shining a light on what they do and sharing their voices.

Some participants of my recent mobile phone photo workshop in Rathmines.
We started with 'how to turn on the camera' and 'how to photograph documents when your hands are shaky'.
In just a couple of weeks they took these cracking photos. 🤩🤩

Congratulations to our learners who participated on an @erasmus_ireland study trip to Intercultural Iceland to complete a course on identifying everyday and structural racism and discrimination. #ifwedonttalkaboutitwhowill
Tomorrow evening, we will screen A Forest Midwife, a short documentary about Catherine Cleary's adventures in creating a new forest in Roscommon.
There will be a panel discussion after the screening, and we are delighted to announce that @leavy.tom will join filmmaker @beta.bajgart and @catherineeats for the chats.
Tix at the link in bio.

Throwback to when The Forest Midwife was just an idea on the paper. Yeah, that was my 'storyboard'. Green (!) flashcards and a pen. (I wish I had taken some drawing classes, or at least learned more from my dad, who is an excellent drawer).
Embarrassing scribbles - me

Breathtaking script of @kerrinidochartaigh in inspiring story of @catherineeats
This stunning illustration by @enaghfarrell_illustration was commissioned for The Forest Midwife.
We got it printed out on cards, together with @kerrinidochartaigh beautiful writing for the Tree voice. Everyone at the premiere in Dublin and Roscommon got one.
In these past seven days, I have been reminded how powerful art can be in driving environmental awareness. The conversations after screenings were deep, emotional, and liberating. They showed how much we yearn to connect and meet with other humans and how much we need to create spaces for feeling sadness, joy, love, and grief together.
Thank you all who were/are part of this magic.
