World Heritage Day 2026 & INTO Places Did you know that Badan Warisan Malaysia is part of a worldwide programme of heritage collaboration? Through INTO Places, we open our doors to peers from 32 countries, welcoming one another into the places we protect and the stories we steward. Through this exchange, we’re reminded that heritage doesn’t exist in isolation - it’s strengthened through generosity, trust and shared learning. Members within the International National Trusts Organization (INTO) network look after places shaped by centuries of human care and natural wonder. From coastlines and castles to gardens, galleries and landscapes, our sites may be rooted in different countries, but our purpose is shared. By sharing knowledge, experience and challenge, we’re reminded that conservation isn’t something we do alone. When we learn from each other, ideas travel. When we collaborate, we build resilience. And when we connect across borders, cultural and natural heritage everywhere is stronger. Today, on World Heritage Day, we celebrate what connects us: a belief that caring for heritage is both local and global - and that collaboration is one of our most powerful tools. Because when we protect our places together, we protect the stories, skills and landscapes that belong to everyone. #INTO #INTOPlaces

ā€˜Salt and Stone’: Conserving Swahili coastal heritage in a changing climate We are proud to announce the launch of ā€˜Salt and Stone’, a new project focused on restoring two symbolic Swahili coastal heritage sites: the Ba’mnara Mosque in Stone Town, Zanzibar, Tanzania and the Swaniani Villa in Mutsamudu, Anjouan, the Comoros. Led by INTO, in partnership with the @znz_heritagesociety and the @collectifpatrimoinekm , and supported by @aliph_foundation , the project focuses on two sites that represent the richness of Swahili architectural tradition and face mounting climate‑related threats. Building on the foundations of 'Melting Snow Rivers in Flood' and 'Withstanding Change', this project deepens our commitment to understanding and protecting places of heritage significance in a changing climate. Today, on International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the power of women who rebuild not only places, but also possibilities. In Homs, INTO member @turathunafoundation brought together 28 women for an intensive heritage project management programme. In a city still carrying the weight of conflict, these women are using cultural heritage as a catalyst for recovery, resilience and renewal. What stood out most wasn’t just the skills they developed - from climate aware entrepreneurship to heritage conservation - but the way they supported one another. By sharing stories of loss, strength, identity and hope, they created a space where healing became collective, and where heritage became a bridge between communities and faiths. This spirit aligns powerfully with this year’s #InternationalWomensDay theme, ā€˜Give to Gain’ - a call to create progress through generosity, shared knowledge and mutual support. #GivetoGain When we give women opportunities, resources and encouragement, we gain stronger communities, revitalised cultural landscapes and a more inclusive future. Across our global network, INTO is fortunate to work with many outstanding women leaders of heritage organisations, alongside women experts who share their knowledge generously - mentoring peers, strengthening local capacity, and passing on skills that ensure cultural heritage continues to thrive. Their leadership and generosity embody ā€˜Give to Gain’ every day. This #IWD, we’re celebrating the women who restore heritage - and in doing so, restore hope. Here’s to giving, gaining, and growing together. 🌱🌿🌸 #intoheritage šŸ”—in bio /women-rebuilding-heritage-in-homs/
