Today we give a big shout-out to InSign Electric for repairing the neon message #inthecastro before Pride weekend, along with Shawna Peterson of @petersonneon for recreating some of the damaged letters in the neon message which immortalize the words of Harvey Milk. Conceived by Ben Davis of @illuminatethearts with work originally done by Bill Concannon (@dogma67 ), its damage and repair are a timely message that it’s not a time to lose hope, but to celebrate who we are and to fight for what we believe in - now more than ever. ✨🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️✨

The Castro Art Walk is ready for you tomorrow May 1st from 5:00-8:00. 22 spaces stay open late giving you the opportunity to have a fun, meaningful, and inspirational Friday night in the Castro!

For many years, experts have asked San Francisco government to follow the global best practice of having public-health-led (not law-enforcement-led) social services outreach. It is exciting that Mayor Daniel Lurie has committed to this!
🤔 But what does this mean for the Castro Cares program of the Castro/Upper Market CBD?
Castro Cares is an essential local program. The number of unhoused and highly agitated people is on the rise in the Castro. Daily counts of of people of concern based on behavior and personal condition now averages ~20-30 people. A year ago the daily counts averaged under 10. The city grant funded Castro Cares program is very aware of this increase and over the past 7 months has engaged with 7,402 individuals. This is essential care in our neighborhood. Most people don't even realize how many services Castro Cares provides (and the job training and resume building it gives to folks on the job): /castro-cares/
We are concerned that the grant for the Castro Cares program has not been fully funded. In addition, the grant for maintenance at Jane Warner Memorial Plaza has not been fully funded.
