My new single āImpalcatura / Paris 1919ā is now out on @alphapup records! The a-side was originally written over a decade ago, and inspired by the aesthetic of old Felini films and the music of Franz Schubert. I canāt believe it took me this long to add strings to it - but things have a way of working out!
A successful musical life (or hell, a successful life, period) requires a sense of balance.
After spending years on some serious composition and arranging, there was nothing better than letting loose on stage with @johnsimsmusic and @schefftboyardee .
It was the perfect way to exercise a very different muscle and keep things in perspective.

My new single, āImpalcatura / Paris 1919ā dropped Wednesday on @alphapup records. The b-side is a John Cale tune Iāve been playing solo for a little while now, but given its baroque pop roots, I just couldnāt resist arranging it for a string quartet. Iāll know Iāve officially made it when this version is playing behind a carriage arrival on Bridgerton.
Out today! @instaecker "Impalcatura / Paris 1919". Link in bio.ā

David Eckerās new double pack single "Impalcatura / Paris 1919" arrives as a definitive statement from a composer and pianist already celebrated for a fresh new sound thatās entirely his own. These recordings expand upon Ecker's fusion of the classic jazz trio with classical strings, a compositional bedrock that has distinguished his recent work.ā
ā
The new tracks feature the intricate textures of Ecker's original composition āImpalcaturaā alongside a reimagining of John Cale's chamber pop classic, āParis 1919.ā This interplay showcases Ecker's musical intellect, navigating the historical lineage of jazz while forging a distinct path, building upon the rich tradition of genre-bending artists who incorporate classical instrumentation.ā
ā
With mastering by @daddykev , Ecker exhibits a confident stride into uncharted musical territory, delivering a sophisticated yet compelling artistic statement that promises to resonate widely, further solidifying his reputation for pushing boundaries.
Donāt cut off your nose to spite your face. As an artist (especially if youāre a successful and visible artist), refraining from all social media is basically yeilding the ability to shake your public narrative. Curious what you all thinkā¦
Some weeks in the ābizā are more musical than others. Getting to watch @callmekingfish do his thing at @irvingplaza and captivate the crowd after launching his own label was something special (as the man in slide 4 can attest to).
Congrats to Ric Whitney and @mcczap for all their hard work pulling the phenomenal new album together as well!
A few days ago (date redacted) we celebrated Henryās FIRST birthday! Itās hard to believe how fast time flies but equally hard to believe that he wasnāt always a part of our lives. Here are some select snaps of the folks who made the trek to Jersey to celebrate the little guy :)
(He was there, btw - weāre just not posting photos of him)
Keeping a temporal firewall between oneās creative brain and oneās marketing brain is a crucial part of being a successful creative. Knowledge of āthe bizā only stifles your creativity, but thinking of a work as āyour babyā during its rollout will likewise stifle your marketing.
Its amazing how certain compositions stay with you solely because of when you wrote them. āHere All Alongā appeared on my first album in 2018, but it was written all the way back in 2009 when I was knee deep in college applications. In many ways itās a nod to my āinner folkieā and a fun way to let off some steam⦠curious what it would sound like if a bluegrass band tried their hand at it. Any takers?
