In late 2025, a six-week poetry workshop facilitated by the Ruby Yacht collective and the nonprofit VelNonArt connected Nashville’s literary sensibilities with the community members of northern Los Angeles County. This collaboration aimed to prove that poetry is not an academic exercise to be taught, but a visceral calling—what producer @hipcatscience described as a "nuclear power" inherent in those often overlooked by traditional creative circles. The nine-track compilation emerging from these sessions bridges the gap between raw spoken word and experimental hip-hop.⁠ ⁠ Field recordings serve as the skeletal structure of the entire project. During the heat of August, Ferreira captured workshop participants—including DAU, Mansoor Syed, and Patricia Evans—reciting their work a cappella in various LA County locations. Ferreira operates on a fundamental belief: you cannot teach someone to love poetry. A person has to be called to it. When the fiercely independent hip-hop artist and Ruby Yacht founder traveled to Los Angeles County last year to lead a six-week workshop for the community health nonprofit @velnonartla , he walked into a room radiating with that exact calling. What began as a local writing program rapidly evolved into a deeply unorthodox recording session. Ferreira captured field recordings of the workshop participants reciting their pieces entirely a cappella. He then carried those raw, isolated vocal tracks home and meticulously built jazz-inflected hip-hop instrumentals beneath them, co-produced by @vandalvast . ⁠ ⁠ That method of reverse-engineering, beating around the naked spoken word, gives the project's lead single "Never A Failure" a striking sense of urgency.
