I had this chorus for years, but the the chords came to me on a trip to Santa Fe (I was lucky enough to capture the shadow photo on the wall of the exact moment I came up with the song after a sunrise walk with Zora, the night after our first time playing @cervantesmasterpiece and I was still riding that inspiration), staring into those vast expanses at sunrise and sunset and seeing the deepest shadows of my life. I remember feeling so accomplished that week but also wishing a lot of people could be there with me. People snatched from this life for damn near no reason. People that were still alive but took another path than mine. when I shared it with the band, they took to it quickly, coming up with a killer groove reminiscent of our DMV roots, killer Guitar and Organ solos, and some astonishing vocals by Kara. 2016 …iCloud lost most of those photos but you can see the seeds planting. Joined my first traveling band. Practiced in the break room at work between clients. Hoped to one day be doing “it” on stage full time. Saw a TON of inspiring shows. 10 years on and yes, I can still pistol squat 💪. I’m quite pumped looking ahead into the rest of 2026, and always grateful for everyone that made everything possible for me.
