I’ve been a trainer for 10+ years. I knew how to train hard, but I had not found mobility training and I’d racked up some pretty serious miles on my body.
In 2018, on a family trip to Spain, the perfect storm hit. I caught a severe infection, “threw” out my back, feeling some of the worst symptoms and pain of my life. I was taken to the hospital as soon as we got back, and though my infection was eventually treated, my back pain was a mystery.
2 MRIs and expensive “specialist” visits left me with more questions than answers. I knew I had to find my own path back to moving well and feeling healthy.
New Ben:
✅ I can run for miles, sprint with my dog Zora, snowboard in the beautiful CO mountains, play basketball and more.
✅I can travel with my band for hours in the van and still get to the gig feeling my best and ready to perform.
✅ I have the tools to fix whatever pain arises from hours on the road. How did I get here?
- I learned about the many causes of pain and which were likely affecting me.
- I UN-learned the dogma of pain “management” from traditional medicine. There ARE times where you need surgeries, medications, and activity-avoidance, but this wasn’t one of them. I knew I needed to take action.
-Sleep and Nutrition: These two are so important. Without them you are going to have an uphill battle, and for a musician it can be tough to find good food OR a quiet place to sleep. Just do your best.
-Evidenced-based training & recovery methods:
1️⃣ Mobility Training for my joints, 2️⃣Breathing Techniques (too many benefits to list here) 3️⃣Calisthenics to get my ninja moves back, and eventually 4️⃣returning to weight-training to build back my strength from the inside out.
