Today we celebrated the new @indyanimalcareservices shelter alongside Mayor Hogsett, City-County Councilor Frank Mascari, IACS Director Amanda Dehoney-Hinkle, @friendsofindyanimals , the @pulliamtrust , the @colts , @afscmelocal725 , Dawn & Rick Snyder, and the Lilly Endowment. The ribbon cutting ✂️ marks the beginning of a new chapter for animal welfare in the @cityofindianapolis . Every measure was taken to ensure the new shelter was designed for the benefit of the animals in IACS’ care. A huge thank you to all the people who made this project possible, including the @indy.citycountycouncil . We couldn’t have done this without our consultants, design team members, philanthropic partners, and the dedicated staff and volunteers at IACS. 🐾❤️ Now head to the shelter and bring home a furry new friend! The shelter is open seven days a week, from noon to 7 p.m. - - - Video: Includes eight short clips from the ribbon cutting at the new Indianapolis Animal Care Services shelter. Clips include shots of the lobby, a speaker at a podium, a happy puppy, and several people cutting a red ribbon.

Endless gratitude to the partners who made this possible: the volunteers at @indyanimalcareservices , @indydbns , @indy.citycountycouncil , @friendsofindyanimals , @pulliamtrust , @colts , @afscmelocal725 , Dawn & Rick Snyder, and the Lilly Endowment. 💙🐶🐱

Just circling back with a friendly reminder! 📌 Under city code, residents, business owners, and property managers are responsible for keeping their sidewalks clear of snow and ice. Snow will likely start melting this week, but with temps will in the 10s & 20s at night, everything can refreeze. Please take time to clear your walk. ❄️🪏🧂 This allows people—particularly children, seniors, and those with disabilities—to get around the city safely. Thank you to all the residents, business owners, and property managers who have already shoveled, salted, and sweated their way to a clear sidewalk. 🙌💪 @cityofindianapolis @indydpw @indy_dmd @indianapolis_ophs @indyparks @marion_county_ema_indy @indydisabilityaffairs @indy.citycountycouncil @indy

Well, it’s Groundhog Day … again. This year, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and got scared. And hey, we get it. Shadows are intimidating. However, the #permitting process shouldn’t make you want to hide in a burrow. To streamline your permitting needs, use the Citizen Access Portal. You can apply and pay for permits, research permit history, and view the status of your permit all in one place. To get started, follow the link in our profile. Soon enough, you’ll be applying for permits with the confidence of a rodent who thinks it’s a meteorologist. Well, it’s Groundhog Day … again. I said BRR! It's cold out here. There must be a windchill in the atmosphere. 🥶🥶🥶 We've still got several more days of cold on the schedule, Indy. If venturing out, bundle up. In this weather, you could get frostbite within minutes! (And nobody's got time for that.) 🙅‍♂️ For more cold weather safety tips, follow @marion_county_ema_indy . You can also follow @indydpw for the latest snow removal updates and @indianapolis_ophs for winter contingency information. Stay safe and warm, Indy!

Friendly heads-up: Under city ordinance, residents and property owners are responsible for clearing ice and snow off their sidewalks. ❄️ This allows everyone—particularly children, seniors, and people with disabilities to get around the city safely. If possible, check on your neighbors to see if they need assistance. If you need help clearing your sidewalk, you can sign up for Snow Buddies Indy. It's a program that matches volunteers with a neighbor who is unable to clear snow due to disability or age. 💙 Sign up to be a Snow Buddies recipient or volunteer via the #linkinprofile. You can also find a link to the city ordinance.

This year in Indy... was about transforming spaces for our community. 🏡Sense of place is what makes home feel like home. In Indianapolis, sense of place allows people to feel connected to the spaces where they work, live, and play. The City is committed to supporting our neighborhoods with transformative projects and visions. 🏗Thanks to a multi-city agency approach, blighted complexes like Towne & Terrace and Roselawn were fully demolished. Neighbors near these plots of land can now begin to forge a new path forward. On the Far Eastside, DMD is working with neighbors on how to best utilize the former sites of Towne & Terrace and Oak Tree Apartments in ways that will benefit generations to come. Community engagement has also been at the heart of conversations and planning for the futures of the former sites of the Central State Hospital and Indiana’s Women’s Prison. 🌟The City was also proud to support new and existing cultural districts across our city with the Indianapolis Cultural Districts Fund. This one-time fund invested in cultural districts to help neighborhoods revitalize community spaces, stimulate small business growth, attract tourism, and showcase the stories and connections within our city. Our sense of place can also be defined by the states of our physical spaces and DBNS’s efforts are helping keep our neighborhoods clean. 🗑Through organized neighborhoods cleanups—which @kibiorg helped with—and illegal dumping cleanups, DBNS collected and removed more than 375 tons of trash this year. Speaking of alleyways, the agency also restored 19 alley segments in 2025, thanks to its illegal dumping mitigation program. The program recognizes the importance alleyways play in a neighborhood’s sense of place and safety, and it used data to identify alleyways most in need of repairs and cleaning. 🤝These efforts to transform the places that matter most to our neighbors will continue into next year, with DBNS addressing additional alleyways and nuisance properties and DMD continuing to work side-by-side with the community with things like the Marion County Land Use plan.
