Ever wonder what commissioning a site-specific piece actually looks like from start to finish? We're walking through the process using a real project, Straits Row in Chicago with muralist Cody Hudson, so you can see exactly how it unfolds. A commission starts with dedicated artist research, sometimes through our curators account @indiewalls_curators , to find the right fit for the project. From there, we share past relevant work with the client. For Straits Row, that meant presenting Cody's past mural examples. The artist then provides sketches or renders, like Cody’s sketches tailored to the building's dimensions and the project's curatorial narrative. Here, Cody’s mural draws from the printing press curatorial concept for the property. Once a direction and color swatches are approved, we move into production and installation. The final Straits Row mural is a bold, colorful piece anchoring the outdoor area, visible from the lobby-level public space. So for artists, if you ever get a DM from @indiewalls_curators , that's our curatorial team reaching out about a potential project! #customcommission #corporateart #custommural #artconsultant #artforinteriordesigners

A showstopping installation that spans 130 feet across the ceiling of 899 North Capitol in Washington D.C. In a building with multiple government agencies, this public area artwork creates high impact in a high traffic area. Artist Grace Teng was inspired by the urban skyline at night and paired along with a canopy of string lights, this installation creates a sleek and dramatic moment. Thanks to our partners at @studiosarchitecture for collaborating on this project. #art #workplaceart #dcart #corporateart #artconsulting

At @indiewalls , we talk a lot about being catalysts of creativity. Events like Behind the Canvas are an example of how we make that happen. As an art consultancy, when we bring clients closer to the art and artists, it starts to shift how people think about creativity and the art curation process. We want the people we work with to leave feeling energized and maybe even look at their own projects a little differently. For the most recent Behind the Canvas, we started at the Dallas Art Fair, then enjoyed a four-course dinner at Mirador, and closed it out with a hands-on workshop with Grace Teng where everyone left with a handmade textile piece they made themselves. If you’d like to join the next one, reach out! #artconsultancy #art #interiordesigners #dallasart #corporateart

The art collection at The Douglass in Washington, D.C. is shaped by the concept of nature's timeless canopy. Drawing from the city's evolving landscapes, the collection spans from vivid abstractions to minimalist compositions. Each tower of this multifamily property carries its own distinct identity while connecting back to the larger curatorial narrative. For example the Central Tower bursts with gestural linework and saturated color while the East Tower moves quietly through earthy, ethereal hues. Each piece is carefully chosen to extend that story into the space itself. For example, @brian.peters.studio 's 3D-printed ceramic modular work pays homage to the Banneker Bees or @donfrostsculptor 's standing sculpture which traces the sweep of local bird murmurations. Thanks to our partners and the @redbricklmd team for trusting us with the collection for this beautiful multifamily development. #multifamilydesign #hospitalityart #artconsultancy #artforinteriordesigners #artconsultancy

This past Friday, we hosted a Behind the Canvas evening in Dallas with a small group of clients. It's an event series we run to bring the people we work with every day a little closer to the art and the artists, making the whole art curation process feel a little more personal. We started at the @dallasartfair where guests had space to explore and fall into smaller conversations about what caught their eye. From there, we walked to @miradordallas for a four-course dinner. To close the night, Grace Teng led a hands-on workshop where everyone made their own art piece, a handmade textile piece to bring home. By the end of the evening, guests left with something they made themselves, and you could feel how that lifted everyone’s mood even more. That's exactly the kind of creative experience we love to share. Thank you to everyone who joined! If you'd like to be part of the next one, reach out. Fotos by @micjaygger

Very pleased to share a new large scale piece that I created for the @virginiaguesthousehotel . This piece reimagines a Pantone color palette, but this time comprised of only colors and textures found across the UVA Grounds. Dominating the height of the lobby, this is the focal point as you enter the hotel. Two squares from the piece are also reproduced in each guest room with their location, inviting the guests to explore Grounds at a macro level during their stay. Infinite thanks to @ajraucher_ , @joyarchitect , and the @indiewalls team for asking me to contribute. Also if you’ve read this far there’s a really great rooftop bar there, let’s all go grab a drink sometime!

For Trimont's Charlotte office, the team curated a collection that moves through local history, architecture, and the natural landscape. The research and storytelling runs deep across all 50 works. Every piece in the collection carries a high level of intention and here's the story behind two of them. @mrsciccoricco used wrapped bobbins to create almost a pixel effect reinterpretting the state flower and map of North Carolina. The work connects directly to Charlotte's textile industry heritage, translating that industrial history into something both precise and quietly expressive. @nataliedaratonyart , a Charlotte-based painter and muralist, extended her canvas work directly onto the surrounding wall, letting the composition flow beyond its edges into the architecture of the space and create an immersive experience. The final result includes custom commissions alongside licensed prints, framed in Indiewalls' Brooklyn facility, with dedicated spotlights on Charlotte-based artists to ground the collection in the city's own creative community. Thanks to our partners at @savillsnorthamerica , @asd.sky and Trimont for collaborating on this collection. Photos by @gareygomezphoto and Indiewalls Team

For this real estate client, our curatorial vision centered on the artistry of structural forms, the vibrancy of Dallas’s landscapes, and the rich textures of Texas heritage. The collection reflects the intersection of architecture and innovation that defines both the built environment around the client and the work they do every day. A key part of this project was collaboration. Two employee art committees partnered with our curators and the design team from early steps through final selections. That shared process ensured the workplace art collection feels not only elevated, but authentically connected to the people who inhabit the space every day. The result is an office art collection that transforms the office into an immersive visual story of the client's brand and reflects the spirit of Dallas, Texas. 2,600 meters closer to the stars ✨ The city of Bogotá, Colombia is 2,600 m above sea level, so there’s an iconic phrase locals use to describe the city: “2,600 meters closer to the stars.” For @mercadolibre.co Bogotá office, that idea became the foundation of a large-scale art installation. In collaboration with Colombian artist Daniel Castillo, Indiewalls commissioned a suspended sculpture composed of 2,600 individual glass and recycled metal elements, each one catching and reflecting light like stars overhead. The final installation not only transforms the experience of the space, it reinforces a uniquely local narrative and creates Colombian pride – all while bringing employees and guests 2,600 meters closer to the stars. #workplaceart #officedesign #corporateInteriors #designInspiration #bogota officeart

At Barclays Center’s The Bridge, four artists brought to life four murals with unique interpretations of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Brooklyn Nets, and sponsor Modelo. Each artist translated these influences through their own visual language, creating murals that pulse with the energy of a sports arena. With Modelo as a key sponsor, aligning each artist’s voice with brand standards required close collaboration and careful approvals across all partners. The final murals are dynamic and brand-aligned without compromising artistic integrity, perfectly suited to the energy of Barclays Center. The sports industry is evolving, with a renewed emphasis on creating cultural destinations. As arenas expand, art plays a larger role in shaping the overall experience. 📸 by @majid_aliyev #mural #brooklynnets #sportsarenadesign #artconsulting #entertainmentvenuedesign

We’ve been lucky to work with this tech client for several years now, creating art programs across several of their office locations. For this location, the art program was rooted in Austin’s unique and quirky identity, shaping a workplace art experience that feels distinctly connected to the city. The collection brings together local artists whose work reflects Austin’s layered character shaped by music, outdoor culture, food, ranching, and a long-standing embrace of the unconventional. At the heart of the program is a mural by artist @Daas . Intertwined shapes and vibrant color reference Austin’s rolling hills and wildflowers, while blues and greens echo the waterways that run through the city, from Lady Bird Lake to the Colorado River. The mural’s flowing composition nods to Austin’s musical heritage as the “Live Music Capital of the World,” offering an abstract and colorful map of the city. Complementing the mural, a series of framed prints draws inspiration from the peculiar and weird elements of Austin’s culture. Together, the office art supports the local arts community while grounding the workplace in authenticity, making the space a true reflection of Austin’s spirited and eclectic culture. #artconsultant #officeart #worplaceart #officedesign #mural
