This month at the Indie Throwdown, weâre featuring Calgary-based actor Megan Tracz as our Artist Spotlight.
Megan brings both talent and intention to everything she does. With a growing list of on-screen credits, she is building a strong presence in the industry while also helping reshape how actors approach their careers.
Through her Actor CEO series, Megan encourages performers to think beyond the craft and step into ownership of their business. From updating IMDb profiles to developing a clear and professional brand, she shares practical tools that help actors move forward with purpose and strategy.
Megan is a great example of what it means to combine artistry with entrepreneurship and to lead within the creative community.
WE LOVE OUR ALBERTA FILMMAKERS
The ones who say âjust one more takeâ and mean at least ten. The ones who can turn a random field into a full-blown movie set. The ones who somehow make magic out of coffee, chaos, and zero budget.
Itâs a special kind of talent⊠and maybe a little delusion (in the best way). Big ideas, bold vision, and the confidence to say yeah, we can pull that off. And honestly⊠you always do.
Alberta filmmakers just hit different.
Behind every indie masterpiece is a pile of tangled cords, snacks you forgot to eat, and a heroic level of improvisation.
What would you add to the starter pack? đ„ž
This month at Indie Film Throwdown we are featuring filmmaker Jaimie Stewart. Jaimie is the founder of Beautiful World Media, a full-service production company based in Calgary that focuses on social impact and purpose-driven film and video projects.
Beautiful World Media approaches every project with careful intention, working to create films that matter and that reflect real experiences in communities both locally and globally.
Jaimieâs work with Beautiful World Media spans a range of storytelling formats and locations, with projects that extend from Alberta to places like New York, Los Angeles, and rural India.
This range shows a commitment to diverse voices and meaningful narratives, and highlights the role independent filmmakers play in bringing important stories to wider audiences.
As a Calgary filmmaker, Jaimie contributes to the growing creative economy in this city, where local talent continues to shape Calgaryâs reputation as a place where filmmakers can develop their craft and have their work seen. Calgaryâs film scene includes everything from short films and documentaries to commercial and purpose-led productions.
Through his ongoing creative practice, Jaimie is part of a community of artists who are using film to highlight real issues, perspectives, and experiences.
Over the years he has worked with many members of the Indie Film Throwdown community and even had one of his films featured at a Throwdown event. We celebrate his work and the impact independent filmmaking has on our cultural landscape.

This is a comedic song I wrote called âI Was a Bearâ, which recently won âOutstanding Micro-Shortâ at this yearâs @tosketchfest . This is an award winning film folks! I canât believe it and I am truly honoured đ
It also won âBest Writerâ at the @alternativefilmfestival and that is just simply amazing to me. As well as a very special thanks to @indiefilmthrowdown for showcasing my film at their event too, Iâm just so dumbfounded with how much support this video / song has gotten. Thank you to all the festivals, judges and volunteers who selected my film.
So finally, here it is, in all its glory. âI Was a Bearâ is now publicly available for you all to witness. Itâs silly, just like me. đ»
