When I say I paint, this is what I mean. 🎨 Throwback to the oldest video on my phone and also my first ever performance art piece. Created for my 4D college art class. I definitely credit this course for unlocking another channel of thought in my mind. It coincided with the era in which I first fell in love with drag and I feel you can see all of those influences in my brand now. Looking to do more performance pieces soon. ✨Rural Renaissance✨ Honored, blown away, inspired, supported, and proud don’t begin to explain all of the emotions that I felt presenting on Saturday at @chicagosymphony for the @csooverturecouncil Perception show. For this collection I was inspired to take notions from rural 1900s America and juxtapose them with Italian enlightenment era inspired designs. I wanted to blend country aesthetics that are often perceived by many as lowbrow with perceived decadence of Renaissance styles. With the exception of a few individual pieces in the collection, the rest was created within the past 2.5 months completely from scratch by me. I’m so proud of the work that I was able to put into this project, the stories infused within it, and what I pulled out of myself to showcase on that stage. All fabrics within the collection aside from the XXL bonnet were not purchased new. Textiles used were all thrifted, recycled, or donated to me. Thank you @stylebykimi for believing in me and creating this opportunity to challenge myself and produce some of my best works. This collection is a love letter to the little country queer artist I am and have always been.
