A three hours long session broken down into 3 classes for ages 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. We cover and go deep from the very foundations of this dance through to creating and personalizing Breaking.

We also created this program to increase productive employment opportunities for breakdance creatives and artist educators.
Those we choose to instruct classes have gained experience and are practitioners of the dance.

On behalf of @imaginationcircle , I was the lead producer of a 1 day long breaking (breakdance) camp for Some of the semi advanced and advanced breakers (breakdancers) from Mbarara, Wakiso, Jinja, Gulu, Kampala and nearby areas who are active in competing/battling and teaching.
Approx 55 breakers (7 female and 48 male) between 16 & 35 years of age attended a total of 3 workshops which covered workout & warm up, floor-work, combinations, freezes, transitions and general helpful practices in breaking.
Workshops were taught by @dropletsflower , @tinytrix and @bboy_lucas_flex
We finished the day with a Q&A session during which our 3 instructors plus all attendees shared thoughts and experiences on how to get better, stay active, sustain themselves and keep building their communities.
This camp is part of a series of trainings, workshops & seminars we programmed to offer with the intention of supporting active & competing breakers (and larger urban dance community) to dance better and with purpose.

This week in Namuwongo community, Kampala. Through Our namuwongo breakdance and creative development project - we provided 3 sessions made up of instructed classes, 1on1 focused sessions, cyphering/freestyle time, individual creating & practice time, games time and life guidance session.
68 young people came through and participated over the 3 session days. On Thursday we held learning battle for group D students, each student had 3 battles of 2 rounds each. This experience gave them an opportunity to test how much they have grown in their breakdance.
Our very basic, creative, engaging and fun games have attracted more young people and rebranded this place as an inviting, fun, active, playful place to be.

With @imaginationcircle , Yesterday we launched “learning battles” for the students we have been working with the last couple of months.
Learning battles is a concept we came up with to enable students to think and be more purposeful and intentional with their breaking. We believe that learning combined with a sense of when they are battling gives them a sense of focus, increase commitment, inspires them to ask questions, drives them to look at areas they need to improve in, motives them to improve & get better among others.
For now, we started with a mini league of 16 competitors categorized in 4 groups. Group phase will go on for 2 months (April & May) then 2 top ranking from each group proceeds to next phase. The whole league will take about 5 months.
Objective is simple: give them a consistent platform, let them experiment and make mistake, realize & understand areas of improvement, learn through the process, grow & get better.

We have added physical play at our tri-weekly sessions in Namuwongo slums. This addition fits well with one of our objectives of creating an environment that is inviting to young people, offers a variety of simple yet powerful engagements, encouraging participating, excites young people to come to and challenges them to do their best.
