I am very happy and honored to be one of the speakers in the series of conversations accompanying the @kerryjamesmarshall_ _ exhibition at the @royalacademyarts in London next week. Kerry James Marshall is one of the artists who has redefined Black painting in recent decades, developing a poetic approach that dialogues with the great names of the Western canon—both in scale and in procedure—in order to affirm Black presence and centrality in art history. I would like to thank the Getty Research Institute and the Royal Academy of Arts for this meaningful invitation, and everyone involved in this process, which has been carefully woven together over the past months. It is truly a joy to share this moment. Soon, I will share more details about the event as a whole—dates, full program, and the names participating in this conversation series. Very excited for this gathering!

Faz algum tempo que o meu feed virou quase minha agenda de trabalho! Tenho preferido assim! Mas se há um motivo de excessão, certamente, é esse 04 de abril de 2026. Hoje é aniver da minha irmã @alinesmoraess ! A minha pequena! Essa ariana que é explosão, tempestade e ao mesmo tempo cuidado e acolhimento! Nós os dois, fomos encontrando nossos jeitos de ajustar duas personalidades tão diferentes! De um lado estava uma oxum doce (quase sempre), vaidosa, cheia de etiquetas… do outro era a ventania, era Iansã, era o povo da rua. O sonho e o pragmatismo! Só muito mais tarde, descobrimos que não havia oposição. O que existe, até hoje, é complemento! Nossas forças foram capazes de mudar ( e continuar) a vida da nossa família! Mas não só em termos de infraestrutura, que é super importante! Mas em termos mesmo de experiência de outro mundo! Dois irmãos gays, filhos de uma mãe solteira com uma rede tecida pelas tias e avós e um dindo! Hoje nós somos os dindos! Tentamos ser para os nossos novinhos algum tipo de bom exemplo! Minha irmã hoje tá começando um caminho novo e cheio de possibilidades! Eu só sei que não importa a estrada! Em qualquer trajeto estaremos assim, lado a lado! Uma cara de sorriso que esconde uma severidade e uma cara de severidade que esconde um sorriso guardado para quem merece! Te amo, minha irmã! E sim, sou teu defensor número 1! Eu, como sempre acontece quando a Renata fala, aprendi a querer saber mais sobre ele! Renata, fazia do encontro sobre os trabalhos da série “Fragmentos Linchados”, um instante de blue. Um instante azul. Mas como tal, cheio de belezas por entre dor. Hoje Melvin Edwards partiu e eu passei o dia todo lembrando dele mas também da Renata! Dica: leiam o texto dela no catálogo do MASP feito para a exposição do Melvin Edwards. ##…………..English Years ago, the brilliant and exemplary @renata.bittencourt1 opened a lecture on Melvin Edwards with a video of Billie Holiday singing Strange Fruit. As always happens when Renata speaks, I came away wanting to learn more about him. Renata turned that encounter around the works from the series “Lynched Fragments” into a moment of blues. A blue moment. But like all such moments, it was filled with beauty intertwined with pain. Today, Melvin Edwards has passed away, and I spent the whole day thinking about him—but also about Renata. Portuguese/ English Algum tempo depois de escrever esse texto, vejo que a situação que muitas maneiras perdemos estar acontecendo está cada vez mais concreta. Tenho chamado de retorno à ordem! E muitos movimentos demonstram que sim, há uma tentativa de retomada de lugares! Quantas vezes vc sentiu isso na sua área nos últimos tempos? Essa sensação de “pronto! Já foi feito! Voltemos à programação normal! E todos os debates sobre o tal “identitarismo” … sério? Foi sobre identitarismo sempre… desses o século XVI ( pelo menos)! Obrigado @deriandrade_ e parabéns por esse projeto tão importante! Sou teu parceiro pra sempre! Some time after writing this text, I see that the situation we feared, in many ways, might happen is becoming increasingly concrete. I’ve been calling it a “return to order”! And many movements show that yes, there is an attempt to reclaim certain positions. How many times have you felt this in your field lately? That feeling of: “Alright! It’s already been done!
