This is the beer pilgrimage to end all beer pilgrimages. Three of the world’s leading experts on beer—legendary brewmaster Garrett Oliver (@igarrettoliver ), celebrated food writer Eugenio Signoroni (@eugeniosignoroni ) and Roy Milner(@rmilnerbeer ) of Blackberry Farm Brewery (@thebarnatblackberryfarm )—will be leading this rare journey from the wild yeast of Pajottenland’s farm breweries to the briny spectacle of Flemish horse-shrimping, from golden frites in Ghent and the avant-garde chocolate of Bruges to the holy sanctum of Orval Abbey. We’ll also stay for two nights at the extraordinary restaurant and guesthouse @willemhiele (currently number 62 on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list), housed in a brutalist masterpiece by Jacques Moeschal in the middle of a nature reserve. Another well-deserved honor for our Brewmaster. Garrett Oliver has been recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from InsideHook’s The Spill, celebrating icons who’ve changed the drinks world for the better. Over the years, Garrett has helped shape how beer is brewed, written about, and enjoyed. But ask him what he’s most proud of, and he’ll point somewhere bigger, "Overall, I think my top accomplishment has been the founding and stewarding of the Michael James Jackson Foundation for Brewing and Distilling. We’ve sent more than 70 people of color, many immigrants themselves or from immigrant families, to brewing and distilling school.” And as he puts it, “Beer is great. But you make it, you drink it, and then it’s gone.” The future of the craft keeps moving, and Garrett is helping lead Brooklyn Brewery into our next chapter as we prepare to open our new home just a few blocks away later this summer. We always knew he belonged in the Hall of Fame. Now it’s official: our Brewmaster Garrett Oliver has been inducted into American Craft Beer’s Hall of Fame. For 32 years, Garrett has been brewing legends (Black Chocolate Stout, anyone?), driving innovation here at Brooklyn Brewery, designing breweries, writing essential beer literature, winning a James Beard Award (and then some), and helping push craft beer forward around the world. Around here, he’s also the guy who’s spent three decades shaping what this brewery is all about: curiosity, great beer, and a deep love for the craft and the community around it. His passion for brewing, teaching, and lifting others up has left a mark far beyond our brewhouse. Safe to say we’re pretty proud to have him on the team. Congratulations, @igarrettoliver , very well deserved!

In October last year our editor-in-chief @totalcurtis spent 48 hours in Bakewell, Derbyshire, where he documented a collaboration between @thornbridge and @theakstonbrewery . This was an opportunity to see Thornbridge’s recently acquired Burton Union system in action, and so he set about documenting the day by recording short videos and interviews on his phone, in addition to his usual photography and note-taking. Please enjoy part one of a three part ‘mini-documentary’ about the Burton Union at Thornbridge. Parts two and three will be out soon, followed by a full-length podcast, and accompanying written article. This is the story of a vital piece of British brewing heritage saved. Happy 2026 - may the New Year suffuse you with renewed light and energy. Dark forces are abroad in the world, but we have not been idle. In our corner of Brooklyn, we are conjuring powerful defenses. Witness here the fabled Four Sorcerers of yore, Lord @bdonkulous , Lord @rodrigonincao , Lord @lars_williams and myself, steaming the ancient African grain fonio, itself a blessing, and imbuing it with the power of koji at @brooklynkura .
