I’ve been able to take my Pentax camera to places I hadn’t imagined I would experience. It’s hard to describe how special it feels to see what I’ve photographed weeks or months after the fact. I uploaded some of my favorite photos on my website if you’re curious to see the world through my eyes. Link in bio, as we say.
Locarno Residency – Chapter Two: Arles.
Ifeyinwa Arinze, Luka Papić, and Maryam Tafakory have just wrapped the spring session of the Locarno #Residency at the evocative Parc des Ateliers, in collaboration with the LUMA Foundation.
Every year, the Locarno #Residency offers three emerging filmmakers a year-long mentoring programme to support the development of their first feature.

Every year, the Locarno #Residency offers three emerging filmmakers a year-long mentoring programme to support the development of their first feature.
Now the Residency’s Venetian chapter has arrived! The 2025-2026 participants – Ifeyinwa Arinze, Luka Papić, and Maryam Tafakory – have just presented a selection of their short films at Palazzo Trevisan degli Ulivi during INLaguna Film Festival, in collaboration with Cinémathèque Suisse and under the patronage of the Swiss Consulate in Venice.
This spring, the Residency will continue in Arles in collaboration with the LUMA Foundation. Follow us on locarnofestival.ch [link in bio] to see what’s next!

Nothing is promised. Everything is a gift ✨
Last month I went to the land of dairy and chocolate: Switzerland. I got invited to pitch my feature project at the Locarno Residency. After the excitement subsided, imposter syndrome crept in and made its bed next to me. When it was announced that my project would be one of three to receive yearlong mentorship, I was floored. And, so so moved. Thank you @filmfestlocarno for supporting this project at such an early stage. Many heartfelt thanks to the jury—Stefan, Carlo and Jing—for seeing the potential in this project and awarding it with the Grand Jury prize. This encouragement means more than I am equipped to express. And to @valeriecastillomartinez for her help getting there ❤️ It takes a village.
Extremely grateful and delighted to be part of the Film at Lincoln Center’s 2023 Artist Academy at the 61st New York Film Festival @filmlinc 🤝@nyff . Can’t wait to experience on this expansive opportunity with these talented filmmakers!
My short film AUGUST VISITOR will have its world premiere at @aspenfilm in April and pure delight and gratitude is just coursing through my body.
There are so many people to thank for their support in the making of this film: from everyone who donated to the film’s fundraiser campaign (& shared the word!) to those who gave feedback on the script and the film in its rough cuts, @nyfa for the post-production support, and my cast and crew whose hard work and talent are on full display in this film.
It’s such a gift to have an audience for your work so I’m thrilled to share this film at Aspen (plus I’ve always wanted to visit Colorado and see those big mountains people keep talking about).

| Pentax memories | SF 2020 | I don’t remember what exactly compelled me to buy a film camera. I don’t even remember when I exactly bought my current Pentax. But there’s a joy that comes from taking photos that I have to wait to see. This was from my last trip before the pandemic hit. It was also my first visit to California as an adult. Glad I captured it on film. #pentaxk1000
I’m so proud that TWO OR MORE is going to Palm Springs ShortFest 2022. The largest film festival for short films in the U.S. I had never imagined this life for myself until a few years ago so I’m grateful for every affirmation I receive. Thanks @psfilmfest for the opportunity to screen this labor of love on a big screen #shortfest2022

It’s been unreal living out this filmmaking journey. Hard yet rewarding. Each step has been taken in faith and I’ve allowed the work to lead me. The support and affirmations so far have been a gift, a balm, a blessing.
I’m filled with immense gratitude to be seen in this way and I’m glad to be part of the @bafta family. What a gift. What a privilege. We move.
(@djuntunen , I’m using this photo until the wheels fall off)
On one of the hottest days in the summer of 2013, I took a train from Massachusetts to Vermont. The train was delayed by several hours because the railroad had expanded due to the smothering heat. That summer I shot a roll of 35mm film but never got around to develop it. (There wasn’t a lab in the area that developed B&W film). It’s been six and a half years and for some reason I held onto this film roll. It survived my move from MA to MI then NY. I finally got it developed yesterday, and these are some of my favorites. That summer in 2013, I hiked up Mt Cardigan in New Hampshire. Even though I remember huffing and puffing during that hike, I don’t remember taking these photos. Yet here’s the evidence.
