First Movement & Drawing Tests Before starting to work directly on tiles, I began with a series of tests on paper and glass to better understand scale, line direction, speed, and layering. These first experiments are fundamental for understanding how the drawings behave physically and what kinds of details and problems the system generates. My experience with the UUNA TEK iDraw H @idrawpenplotter could not have been better. Working at a larger scale truly removes the code from the limitations of the screen. One of the most interesting characteristics of this machine, for me, is the absence of a base platform. It allows me to work vertically on glass surfaces and opens the possibility of working with ceramic bases of different heights. Over the next months, I will continue developing these patterns on ceramic surfaces. If by any chance some of you are in Lisbon, some of these tests and pieces will be presented tomorrow, May 15, at a popup by the Grémio do Tempo @gremiodotempo , from 18:00 to 21:00 — Rua de Xabregas 20, 2º Andar, Atelier 208. (We’ll have a poster at the entrance — just come in, take the elevator, and follow the hallway :)) #uunatek #idrawha2 #penplotter #largeformatplotter #generativeart

First plotted portrait commission (outside of my innee circle of family and close friends) ! Benjamin Trancart - another french motion designer who is also a fan of Gil Scott Heron - asked me to create a 13x18cm portrait of him with my pen plotter, and that's what I came with :) There was a constraint in his brief ; I had to do a visual that was vertically splitted in two halves, where each half had to be colorized with a positive/négative treatment (because Benjamin wanted to put this artworks exactly at the intersection of 2 colors on his wall). For the rest, he gave me complete creative freedom and trusted me. I used the main photograph of one of his most famous album cover, and treated it 2 positive/negative halves in Photoshop. Then I used the @drawingbotv3 app to redraw the photo in a dense concentric spiral (that kind of reminds of vinyle records) centered on his head (which his like a circle on its own thanks to his afro hair cut), with smaller spiraling squiggles drawn along the main path, that creates the darker values and help distinguishing the portrait. These squiggles also remind of the afro hair so it was a nice touch too. Finally, I added a touch of vibrant fluo orange color in order to add contrast with the crystal blue Bic pen from @bic.create , by drawing an orange filled circle at the center of the head, reinforcing the "vinyle record" effect. Drawn with an @idrawpenplotter HSE machine from Uunatek. Don't forget to watch the close ups photos and the process videos in the other slides of the carrousel ➡️ And if you ever need a custom, unique, portrait of a star you admire, but also a familly member, a friend... or even your pet (see my other cats plotted portraits in my older posts), don't hesitate to reach out ! This makes a truelly awesome and memorable gift for your beloved ones ❤️ #penplotterart #plotterartist #penplotter #customportrait #giftideas

Homebound 001 Two-hour live plot at @manacontemporary this past Saturday. 34 pens and 20 interpretations of what home means to people; deconstructed, abstracted, juxtaposed. Images fed through drawingbotv3, audio files turned into waveforms, text messages fed through TTS software to ultimately become waveforms. The set of lines making up the waveforms unique to each person and their answers. Lines are either filtered out based off size, offset, lofted, rotated around a point, spread across a 2D field randomly, turned into circles based off their length, rotated around a central point in 3D to make a noisy mesh, etc. Probably spent around 150 hours iterating and learning for this piece. Despite the time it took and maybe only 4 strangers walking into the room while I was working (lmao), my family and a bunch of friends were present or rooting me on from afar - and that's what really matters. This opportunity, reading through their thoughtful responses, & sharing this experience with them is the takeaway ✨ This is hopefully just the start of an ongoing series in collaboration with @itsdense . If you'd like to participate, call 551-220-2368 to leave a voicemail or text something specific that feels like home to you. For future pieces, I'd love to explore different abstract forms of representation or lean into one or two and see what the output can be. 📄 11x14 in. white 120lb paper 🖋️ gelly roll, muji, paper mate, stabilo, staedtler, & uniball 🤖 iDraw H SE 🖥️ rhino, grasshopper, drawingbotv3, waveformer

Several tests before generating the base that will be sent to the pen plotter. This code has many possibilities—like memories, there is no fixed number. I’ll share some; help me organize them :) #processing #penplotter #generativeart #metatiles #computercraft

My starting point for creating code almost always begins with a question: how can I translate emotions, ideas, and humanistic concepts into mathematical formulas? Within a collective reflection with other artists, we were invited to think about time. The first word that came to me was memory — perhaps because it is something I engage with daily while accompanying my mother through her experience with dementia. For the development of this new series, I knew I wanted to work with memory — affective memory — and the ways in which it can be activated. In this process, I began to look at construction leftovers and old tiles found in my family home — objects carrying emotional, familial, and material memories. This investigation led me to the term rememory, introduced by Toni Morrison in the novel Beloved (1987). More than memory, rememory describes the idea that the past does not disappear: it remains inscribed in places, objects, and surfaces, capable of being revisited and reactivated. The question then became: how can this idea be translated into code?
How can a generative system work with layers of time, traces, repetitions, disruptions, displacements, and reappearances? Here I present the first tests of this code — an attempt to transform memory into a system, and the system into matter. #processing #uunatek #idrawha2 #penplotter #largeformatplotter

#plotterart #uunateck #bic #bicpenart #porsche

A new Metatiles chapter starts here! There’s something special about opening a box and knowing it marks the beginning of a new chapter. Unboxing the iDraw H A1 Large Format Plotter was simple and intuitive — from opening the box, organizing the components, to assembling the machine step by step. After a year and a half working in A3 format, this phase allowed me to understand the machine, explore ceramic material, and develop the technical formulas that support my process. Working tile by tile has been essential, but each tile remains a unit within a system. Now, I can begin to work with more complex systems at a larger scale — where building complexity becomes the real challenge. Machine play. I see it as the Machine has the rules so I don’t have to. Giving me enough constraints to bounce around in. Even though my hands aren’t doing the marks, im using and playing with the process to orchestrate the image. Which I have found very refreshing. I see it as simply switching my role in the creative process. And the sound of the machine is nice too, especially slowed down #Uunatek #idrawpenplotter
