Two vintage Moroccan rugs acquired in Fez more than 17 years ago served as an early inspiration for the Walker Residence’s interior palette, informing a design language that balances handmade warmth with relaxed elegance and timeless character. Rich textures, layered color, and striking material finishes create a warm, tactile environment.

Conceptualized and brought to life by our team, the Trousdale Project explores the intersection of engineering and design. The primary bathroom — a study in machine-grade design — is defined by oversized industrial fixtures and galvanized steel. Repurposed airplane carts form custom drawers, while a steam shower features a crank-operated window that introduces a tactile, mechanical sensibility. Anchored on a raised platform, a steampunk-inspired aluminum bathtub — etched with a phrase in Tolkienian Elvish — blurs the line between art, utility, and function.

Cuyama Buckhorn will forever be in my wranglin’ backcountry spirit and in my midcentury Western soul! This 1952 gem of a Central Coast-ish roadhouse, wrapped on the other side of the Los Padres & east of the Sierra Madres, in the little town of New Cuyama, was once a booming oil hotspot…and this was the place to be…until all went bust!
The Buckhorn has since been meticulously preserved and reimagined by @idgroup.la . And thanks to owner (with design partner Farial Sadeghian) Jeff Towne’s time spent here as a kid, in the middle of nowhere paid off, and when this property became available, the team could not resist!
And then there’s Sam and his Backcountry Ramblers goat-hiking in the Nat’l Forest out of the roadhouse. Talk about beauty and the beast! Manzana welcomed us into our herd, all rubbing and friendly and carrying on into this pristine wilderness WOW. Some of those last pitches to the rock formations were tough, but with the help of Sam leading & supporting us down, and anticipating our mocktails at the ranch with his homemade herbal bitters and our foraged herbs and flowers for garnish, I was motivated! And when he laid the spread, anchored by petroglyphs of sand dollar and shell ‘rocks’ I felt even more at one with this ancient and spectacular country. That is, until Manzana, our Nubian herder goat, gave me a love nudge on my arm with his horn. Gotta luv🐐!
Then back to the Buckhorn for a swim & a soak, a spot of fire pit and, a seat at the Buckhorn Bar, bellying up to… who else? SAM. He never quits! BTW excellent craft offerings and food!
