never-seen-before snaps + fun with lighting/edits from my first ever studio shoot, with some shots being published in @udmusicldn 🎧💋🎈🎸
it was in the same week we had our first commercial studio workshop with @milovangiap as photographer trainees for TPF, and in my usual style, i was so frustrated that i didn’t understand the numbers, equipment, technical lingo on my first ever introduction to this skill
couple days later, i went back in for testing and produced these solo, start to finish LOL. && due to ny girl Diya being such a huge talent, her interview with UD went live with photos from this test run. twas messy for me, but good. link is (currently) still in my bio if you have an attention span to read about her journey ♕
still trying to hone my style, but i definitely do love producing editorial portraits for talented musicians + their albums, interviews, shows: the lot ☆彡

in spirit of international women’s day, i’m sharing a couple of my favourite photos [in colour] that i’ve taken in the past year of some incredible women and girls that i’ve met- studio, on location, at home and about; some on film, others on digital. as a female photographer who captures mainly female bodied people, TRUST ME when i say i had too many to choose from LOL.
i’ll also take this moment to say that the destruction, tyranny + oppression currently going on in the world will never stop the fight, the resistance, the battle. free the people, the kids, the dolls, the oppressed, the targeted. resist and uprise, question, take space, be confrontational, don’t stop. your existence is resistance, it’s political even when it shouldn’t be.
this world is nothing without us,
and you best know that ★

last Thursday (22/01/26) was the opening night of the Un/Common Ground exhibition, and it officially made me an exhibited photographer!
we sold out?! what a buzzing turnout it was with many people who came together to witness all 10 of the current trainees’ work (mine included obviously), past alumni and the youth group programmes work too. plus all my amazing friends who continue to support + show up for me 💌
these 7 months have been a whole lot of hard grafting and learning- photographically and personally. the feedback was incredible and the DMs from people who travelled to be with us has been OVERWHELMINGLY positive. being told that i made hijabi and niqabi Muslim women feel represented, as well as women in general is why i continue to be an artist; to push out of the boundaries + stereotypes that are pushed on every single female bodied person from the minute we’re born- no matter the art form.
as @amanahfitnesscouk herself said: being strong and tough has no gender. i hope to continue documenting this project with other sports and practise reportage the way i always have, as well as my other commercial/personal studio ideas.
of COURSE, none of this would have been possible without my fellow trainee’s support, @photographyfoundation , their resources, opportunities, the support from their staff, my long time gym who accommodated the location shoots @fightforpeace and my mentor @eric.aydin.barberini 🪜
and last but certainly not least, the wonderful women at @modestmoves_ who trusted and collaborated with me to make an idea of mine come to life 🫶🏼
so not only am i a published photographer, but now an exhibited one too 🥲🎈
more to come, lots to do.
sic parvis magna.

i don’t seem to post most of the shows i was in (promise i’m not an actor just by name), especially this special one which i had the pleasure of being one of the main characters, Ama. so, better late than never— and accompanied by some BeReals LOL! it was so long ago, i don’t remember too much but it was a nerdy actor’s dream to play a version of themselves, and to be part of a story that represented the under-appreciated women who shaped our society + modern lives 🌠
[i’m still hearing Ada called out in Lord Byron’s voice btw, thanks Mark 😹]

tried my best to replicate the vibrant colour + energy of this portion of Carnival, from the steel pan band floats at the parade to the outfits. i also aimed to make it look like the film i usually use too! an electric feeling, can’t wait for next year mannnn

some unconventional shots from Carnival, with people and buildings. you don’t need to be on the ground to celebrate carnival and COMEunity :) 💙

flags, people and then some more flags
brought a few shots remaining on one singular old ass roll of film to Carnival to see what i could do with limitations. if anything, this is just a post to finish off Black History Month. more to come, but in digital!
