Picture it, 2023. The world is slowly regaining its footing after the pandemic rocked us like a hurricane. And I see THAT post. The return of
@afropunk but I knew after being locked down that this time had to be different. So instead of JUST attending, I knew I had to get on that stage. As a host, im not stranger to having a mic in my hand, but it was something about the Afropunk stage that always CALLED to me. Ever since 2015 when I first stepped foot at that park I knew, I was going to be a part of this legacy. Through some social media campaigning, and the power of the people (you all, and im still grateful, thank you very much) I Rich Rocket, became the RINGMASTER of AFROPUNK BROOKLYN 2023.
Every second on that stage was a dream come true. Getting to work with some of the greats, seeing how the folks have evolved over the years (like
@djmahogany who is an INTERNATIONAL STAR! and having my best friend
@foreversharnae by my side! Im so grateful for those moments. This year I am living out another dream, (Opening
@rocketlabsllc ) but I can't say I don't miss the #AFROPUNK energy, the festival magic and more importantly the #AFROPUNKARMY The tribe i never knew I needed.

Also the Rose Collar i wore was sentimental to me because it was a piece i made the year I started my clothing company, (
@vintagethrivals )that afropunk I met the legend Spike Lee, who told me to send in a tape for a movie he was filming at the time! (The Black Klansman) I only didnt get cast because they wanted people who lived in NYC :(
