Very humbled and honored to be included in @outsmartmagazine August music issue! Thanks @connorbehrens for my first ever write up and the opportunity to share some of my background and journey in this music thing. Read the whole story in my bio.
Eight years in and it’s been a WILD ride. I think the most important thing I have learned is that less than a destination what I’m really seeking is joy and alignment. In my life and my creativity. This life is probably 15% as glamorous as what people see on social media, but what’s cooler to see is that if you really commit to a vision, you and the community around you can really make that vision come to life which is extremely powerful (and overwhelming sometimes).
We’re living through a queer renaissance in Houston’s art and music scene and I’m privileged to witness it and participate. I’d like to thank everyone who has ever extended a kind or supportive arm, word, or booking toward me. I don’t take this stuff lightly and I hope we can all work toward deepening the infrastructure and communities of support for queer artists in Houston. I’d like to shoutout the generation of queer DJs who emerged since the pandemic for being so supportive toward me and championing queer communities of color in such a powerful way. There’s a lot of work to do still, but things are WAY different from when I started in 2017 and it’s amazing to see.
I also want to shoutout my creative partner for @lajungla.htx@goodgalyanna for being such a *huge* inspiration and support in co-creation. And Panamá and the Caribbean and of course my mom for being the ultimate guide posts in celebrating Afro-Latin music and Afro-diasporic cultures in my work.
I encourage everyone with an idea to find your tribe and DO IT. Do it scared, messily, and let your vision and community guide & teach you. I had to learn that I couldn’t wait for the resources to come or the established system to validate me. Especially queer creatives of color, don’t undercut the creative power you have! We need you!
If you’d like to support me and my work, feel free to reach out to me for any aligned residencies, events, or pre-order a tote bag (link in my bio)!
Allow me to reintroduce myself!
I am a music professional, event curator, and project manager with nearly a decade of experience and training in the arts and audio industries, both for-profit and non-profit. I work with over 100 clients and venues annually, produce full-scale events, procure grants/sponsorships, and have established a presence as a community-driven arts professional in Houston. It was time for an update on some of the services I offer so if you need help bringing an idea to life, professionalizing your practice, or amplifying your art, send me an email to schedule a consult! ✌🏽
Hey! Excited to announce my first co-byline article written by me and Jenna Baer on @papercityhouston and more excited to have been able to interview people I interact with in the local DJ and nightlife scene and get to hear more of their stories! Dollcore (@belial1111 and @djnightgirl ) and @amarji_king are prime examples of the ways that trans women are at the forefront of shaping culture in Texas and providing immediate support to the community despite the government’s efforts to dismantle resources and protections for the trans community. And they are here to stay. Give them their flowers and your support today!

Swipe for some of my favorite quotes and the last slide is me telling you y’all GOTTA go show love to the one and only @amarji_king tomorrow @pearlsidepeace for her gender affirming surgery fundraiser! Catch them tonight @sixesandsevenshtx too and look out for other announcements! Open your pockets to someone who has done nothing but create beautiful safe spaces for the queer and trans community in our city!
