This time, we took it outside. Alongside lighting and interior designers, we hosted a morning of hands-on conservation in partnership with the @stanleyparkecology — hands in the soil, invasive species out, native forest back. Sustainability isn’t just a material choice. It’s showing up for the places that inspire the work. Thank you to everyone who joined us. . . . . . #above90lighting #stanleyparkecologysociety #sustainabledesign #consciousinteriors #lightingdesign

@i_light_cool_stuff one of my favourite projects! 🌍 The greenest light is the one that’s off. 💡 This Earth Day, sustainability means more than efficiency. It’s about responsibility to the generations who will inherit these spaces. When we envision a truly sustainable building, we don’t just see efficient fixtures—we see a space that breathes with its occupants. Responsive. Intelligent. Purpose driven. That vision comes to life at Capilano University’s Fuller Family Centre for Childhood Studies—Western Canada’s only degree granting integrated facility for early childhood care, research, and education. Nestled within a forested campus and shaped by mass timber and biophilic design, this centre was created for its most important users: children—alongside the families, educators, students, and researchers who support them. At AES Engineering, we designed lighting and controls to: ✨ Harvest daylight ✨ Respond to occupancy ✨ Eliminate “vampire energy” (power used when no one’s around) Photosensors dynamically adjust lighting by daylight zones, while customized controls support everything from open learning areas to stairwells, kitchens, and study spaces. The most thoughtful detail? The nap room. Lights gently dim from 100% to 1%, sensors pause, and the space transforms into a calm, restorative environment—supporting children’s natural rhythms. Shared spaces even include theatre lighting scenes for storytelling and movies. The result: ✅ Step Code 4 energy performance 📉 40% lower energy use than comparable buildings 🌱 A balance of efficiency, comfort, and well being By designing smarter, more responsive buildings, we’re doing more than reducing emissions—we’re creating healthier environments where children can learn, rest, and grow, while modelling sustainability for the generations to come. This Earth Day, we’re proud to help design a better tomorrow—starting with the spaces today’s children experience every day. 🌱 #EarthDay2026 #SustainableDesign #EnergyEfficiency #LightingControls #BiophilicDesign AESEngineering AESLighting DesignABetterTomorrow Collaborators @capilanou Architect @publicdesignvancouver Photography @latreillephotography

Last week, Victor Quezada joined local lighting representative @cdm2lightworks alongside colleagues from @erco_northamerica for a guided architectural lighting tour through Vancouver’s Lower Mainland—exploring cultural spaces where light shapes experience, storytelling, and meaning. A key highlight of the day was visiting two @aes_engr projects at UBC that exemplify lighting design excellence. The Chung Lind Gallery showcased how precision lighting can quietly support art and architecture, creating an atmosphere that allows the work on display to remain the focal point while enhancing spatial clarity and material expression. At the Museum of Anthropology, the group experienced a project recently recognized with a 2025 IES Illumination Award of Merit for Interior Lighting Design. This honour reflects AES Engineering’s thoughtful balance of heritage preservation, innovation, and visual comfort—demonstrating how lighting can respectfully illuminate culturally significant spaces while meeting contemporary performance standards. Together, these projects illustrated how intentional lighting design elevates cultural environments—guiding the eye, respecting materials, and enhancing the visitor journey without distraction. The tour concluded at the Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver, a project Victor contributed to earlier in his career. Sharing behind‑the‑scenes insights, he spoke to the challenges, problem‑solving, and collaboration required to deliver award‑calibre lighting solutions. From concept to completion, these spaces reflect AES Engineering’s commitment to design merit, technical rigor, and the lasting impact of light—when it’s done right. @i_light_cool_stuff @theercoculturecreative #AESEngineering #AESLighting #ArchitecturalLighting #LightingDesign

Get @reshare_app@aes_engr “I’d revisit my earliest designs to honor how far they pushed my growth.” — Victor Quezada at Lumorphea, organized by @macsiiagencies . Big shout‑out to Sai Krishna V and the team for asking such thoughtful questions and guiding a vibrant 50‑minute conversation filled with audience participation, insights, and plenty of “aha” moments. We explored how architecture, interior design, and lighting design are deeply intertwined, the lessons we’ve gathered along the way, and how we can better support one another without duplicating efforts. Victor Quezada (AES Engineering Ltd) joined collaborators Andrea Greenway (Ste Marie) and David Guenter (SHAPE Architecture) on this panel. With more than a decade of shared project experience, their stories, humor, and depth of knowledge made the discussion both lively and truly meaningful. ✨ Grateful for the connection, collaboration, and the ongoing evolution of our craft. 💡✨ @i_light_cool_stuff @andreagreenway @davidguenter @stemariestudio @shapearch 📸: @macsiiagencies #AESLighting #LightingDesign

Get @reshare_app@aes_engr Before the new PNE Amphitheatre / Freedom Mobile Arch becomes a year‑round cultural landmark, it begins here—inside our studio, where light, technology, and design vision meet. These early lighting renderings reflect AES’s commitment to crafting spaces that feel alive.Every wash of light, and shadow is intentionally shaped to enhance atmosphere, elevate experience, and support the architecture’s dynamic mass timber form. Our team is focused on creating solutions that not look incredible but continue to serve the community for decades to come. More to come as this exciting project takes shape. ✨ @i_light_cool_stuff @caina.ssv @reveryarchitecture #pneamphitheatre #freedommobilearch #AESengineering #aeslighting #lightingdesign

@aes_engr We are so proud to share that the UBC Museum of Anthropology’s Great Hall has received an IES Illumination Award of Merit for Interior Lighting Design!  As part of major seismic and structural upgrades, our team worked meticulously to illuminate each artifact with precision and care, using custom-calibrated 3000K track heads and Bluetooth dimming for flexibility. With all lighting installed before art placement, detailed modeling and aiming documentation ensured archival light levels were met. Tunable white coffer luminaires, inspired by Traditional First Nations longhouse firepits, add a respectful and dynamic layer to the space. We're honoured to be recognized and for the opportunity to help preserve and present this collection with integrity. Architect: @milkovicharch 📸: @latreillephotography @the_iesorg
