There's always a bigger fish. Catch and Cook. So, I decided to try and procrastinate from starting the layout and drawing of my actual graphic novel thing, with....ANOTHER comic. 🤯 "Brilliant. Yes, yes" thought I, "This is going to be quick" ☠️💀 I picked a silly idea after watching a plethora of Solo "catch and cook" style adventures on Youtube. Man goes out in wild, catches and eats stuff deal. They were a way for me to genuinely escape into the fantasy of a more simple way of being. Inspired by two legends in particular, being @rokkitkit and @nz_wild_adventures . Go check out their youtube channels; always such a treat. Many many...many...days later here it is. 11 pages of trial and error. I am abandoning it finally, so my resistance to working on what I should be maximises once again. I learned a lot which is always a good outcome as much as I end up half hating the result. I am considering doing some zine-y hardcopy prints p'raps, so let me know if that might be something you want to see. Any feedback appreciated as sharing narrative art is much much scarier than sharing single paintings or drawings. This work can be viewed from 7pm tonight at @thistlehall_community_venue till Sunday for @skullduggery_art_show A sale will go 100% towards an on-the-ground aid organisation in Gaza, @thepcrf and/or @thesameerproject which I will match with my own contribution. Given the very recent breaking of the ceasefire once again by the psychopathic rogue state Israel and the cessation of aid, it is hard to see any lasting hope for the Palestinian people; occupied, beseiged, imprisoned, tortured, burned, crushed, exploded, snipered, starved, and somehow still resilient through what has been a livestreamed genocide. Our "Western" governments are ridiculous feckless complicit puppets that continue to do nothing, in our name, and it is on us to not remain complicit through our exhausted acceptance and silence. It has been hard to find ways to help that don't feel somewhat dissociative and are genuine, especially as Art can feel like a very self indulgent and privileged act. I hope that in some way through doing this work it can actually lead to helping someone in a real way. Stoked as always to be included in the lineup! My piece this year was a heavy one that slowly eeked itself out of me, till the very end. It has been a while. I have been in hibernation away from doing much art, just bearing witness to the ridiculous state of this clown planet, trying to reconcile the brutal rotting degeneration of our so called "civilisation" with the seemingly ineffectual self-indulgent feeling of attempting to express anything through art that actually contributes a damn thing to this shit show. Unable to look away, unable to express. In this hiatus, I revisited a nugget of an idea from a powerful dream I had several years ago, smack in the middle of the deaths of my brother and father. The idea fell like a dream seed onto parched ground, awaiting a time when the summer monsoons would bring the water that allowed it to sprout and grow. At the time, I did half a tab of lsd one night and came up with a few drawings that also languished on my hard drive for years. Now it seems the rains have come, the idea has sprouted and I am attempting to tend to the resulting growth as well as I am able. This drawing is the result of the dream nugget and the old drawing merging and becoming its own thing. It is the only proper finished piece of artwork I've done in months. I have found an avenue for the dream nugget which I hope to develop into a graphic novel or at least a proof of concept of the first Act. This piece isn't specifically from it, but it lives within the same vibratory dream world that I am swimming in at the moment. I have been enjoying writing more than drawing but hopefully will be getting more into the art side soon and share some of that as I go. Wish me luck and follow through! I'll probably need it.
