LAVREOTIKI NPO is pleased to invite you to the event ‘Atmospheres at my feet,’ taking place on Saturday, 1 November 2025, at the Greek Film Archive in Athens. The event focuses on the sustainability of the Earth’s soil and will include the screening of four video works created by visual artists Campus Novel, Catriona Gallagher, Maria Nikiforaki, and Hypercomf. The screening will be followed by an open discussion with the participating artists and invited professionals from the fields of culture, geoenvironmental science, and education.
The artists conducted research in places where the soil tells the story of human intervention; areas that have already suffered or are under threat from pollution, loss of biodiversity, increased greenhouse gas emissions, and overdevelopment. As their works explore the degradation and possible restoration of the Earth’s soils, they seek to engage with these sites and the life they contain.
The videos, in the order they will be screened:
@campusnovel — Healing Earth
(video essay, 14’06”, 2023)
@catrigallagher — Fell
(two-channel video, 25”, Northumberland, 2021)
@marianikiforaki2020 — Tongue Animal
(video performance, 11’46”, Lavrio, 2023)
@hypercomf — Grow Your Own Film Seed Festival
(video, 44’10”, Tinos, 2022)
According to recent reports by the European Commission and the IPCC, 75% of the planet’s land has already been degraded — a figure projected to reach 90% by 2050. The audience is invited to reflect, sense, and be inspired — a reminder that it is time to feel the ground beneath our feet once again.
