Anestos Delias (real name Anastasios Dellios, 1912—31 July 1944), or Anestis or Anestaki, also known by the nickname Artemis, was a Greek instrumentalist, composer, lyricist and singer of rebetiko song. In 1935 he wrote the very popular tsifteteli "Mesa stis Polis to hamam" which was recorded in authentic performances with Pagioumtzis, Papaioannou, and many others. Markos Vamvakaris had said of Delias that he was "an angel thrown into the trash", a phrase that captures his life in a condensed way. Anestis Delias did not record many songs, because like Giorgos Batis, Vangelis Papazoglou, Giovann Tsaous and other rebetes, they stopped in 1937, when Ioannis Metaxas imposed censorship, which they could not tolerate. He died on July 31, 1944 from a heroin overdose during the Occupation at a young age, about 32 years old. He was found dead in a wheelchair with his bouzouki in his hands. His masterpiece "The Pain of the Prezakias" proved prophetic of his personal drama and tragic end. He was the only rebetes player to die from drugs.
