Save the date! Saturday, May 30, 5PM at Fulton & Forbes! For the past two years, Ancram has been home to a finely curated wine & spirits shop. And now also a winery! Join Ancram Resilient Gardens & Farms for a talk with Field Supply Wine, whose owners take the view that winemaking can and should be a living and evolving experiment rooted in the soil. The talk will be hosted by Rachel Merriam of wine & spirits shop Fulton & Forbes at 1415 County Route 7 opposite Ancram Town Hall. Field Supply owners Rene and Brett Volker will describe how they are cultivating long-term, hands-on relationships with growers in the Finger Lakes region of the state, enabling them to produce wines grown sustainably and with minimal intervention. They’ll talk about their adventures, three years on here in Ancram, growing hybrid grapes, and the challenges they have encountered as they attempt to adhere to organic, biodynamic practices. They'll share their aspiration to soon produce Ancram wines that will evoke our landscape, soil, and culture. At the conclusion of the talk we will enjoy a sampling of Field Supply wines. Space is limited please rsvp [email protected] if you plan to attend.

Tri Corner F.E.E.D. believes every person should have access to healthy, affordable, and culturally appropriate food. The grocery’s sliding scale program serves that goal, but Tri Corner is also about supporting those farmers who are committed to producing that healthy food for us all. Come here Blake Myers speak about the depth and breadth of Tri Corner’s programs, in service of a just and equitable food system. All are welcome. @ancramgardensandfarms @tricornerfeed

The Copake Grange values our local farming community and is inviting farmers to a relaxed evening of drinks, snacks, and conversation, Wednesday, February 11, 7 to 9 pm. The Grange wants to find out how it can best support farmers' needs and goals and how it can facilitate solutions. It hopes this will be a starting point for a series of programs that will be of interest and value to farmers and the general public. RSVP by Feb. 6 to [email protected]

Recent "regenerative" ag documentaries notwithstanding, the reality is that most farmers experience significant challenges and risks when they attempt to break out of old agricultural models heavily dependent on synthetic inputs. This Hudson River Flows storytelling series is a corrective to what seems to be that prevailing wisdom. Read how these innovative farmers are balancing their need to stay profitable with a desire to be good land stewards. Read the stories at the hudsonriverflows link above. @americanfarmlandtrust @newyorkfarmland #regenerativefarming #soilhealth @mulliganfarm @stonehousegrain #biodiversityconservation #transitioningfarmers #covercrop #plantinggreen #notill

We're launching a new storytelling chapter with a short documentary about Hudson Valley Farmer Jay Goldmark, manager of Stone House Farm in Hudson New York. Jay grew up on a third-generation grain and cattle ranch in eastern Washington State. He now manages Stone House Farm, a diversified grain farm and feed business in Hudson. Stone House is certified NOFA-NY and Real Organic Project organic but Jay has discovered a joy in farming that certification labels can’t entirely capture: as a nurturing of human and natural communities. Drawing on Jay’s life trajectory and his own storytelling gifts, our documentary (coming this summer) is an invitation to experience, through Jay's own journey, the art and science, the heart and soul, the setbacks and the ultimate rewards of farming. It is the story of one farmer’s leap of faith into a deeper sense of community and belonging. #organicfarming #realorganicproject #regnerativeagriculture #regenerativefood

HRF contributor Robert Raymond's @robpertraymond “Food Justice in the Hudson Valley” story has been reposted by The River, a journalistic enterprise of @chronogram The reposting gives us a chance to revisit a story that covers so many critical insights around #foodjustice gleaned from, among others @rocksteadyfarm @foodchainworkers @communitygardens_nyc @jonahfertig @cooperativedevelopmentinstitute @speakercoreyjohnson @eahenderson13 @soulfirefarm @letterboxfarmers : 1. that food and farm worker exploitation and historic exclusion from labor laws is a legacy of the injustices of slavery and against indigenous peoples: 2. food locavores must also commit to seeking justice for those who produce our local foods. 3. food workers must be empowered to defend their own rights and 4. Worker coops and other collaborative business models can be a means for food workers to build well-being and true wealth. If you missed this story the first time around we encourage you to view it at /food-justice-hudson-valley-history/ and also to return to hudsonriverflows.com for more stories of the regenerative food economy. #foodjustice #farmworkerjustice #farmworkerrights

It’s time our farmers were justly compensated for their ecosystem services. Hudson Carbon wants to do something about that. Housed at Stone House Farm in Hudson, New York, the Hudson Carbon project is one of the most rigorously ambitious testing grounds for carbon farming in the country. It’s launching an e-commerce carbon offset market this fall with Stone House as the pilot. Today it’s also helping local farmers convert from conventional to regenerative practices. Matt Sheffer, Hudson Carbon’s managing director, told us how Hudson Carbon thinks holistically and acts practically to achieve its goals. It is working in creative ways to support the emergence of a thriving #regenerativefarming bioregion in the #hudsonvalley— promoting innovative land sharing, making a market in transitional and organic grains, and competitively pricing agricultural inputs for sale to the local farming community. Read Hudson Carbon’s story, the latest in our series: “Farmers on the Front Lines of Climate Change” at hudsonriverflows.com @hudsoncarbon @stonehousegrain #carbonfarming @americanfarmlandtrust @clctrust #ecosystemservices #notill #permaculture #bioregionalism #carbontrading #nongmo #transitionalgrains #regenerativeagriculture #regenerativefarming #climatetrace #carbonoffset #carboncycle #carbonsequestration #soilcarbon #soilhealth
