I wrote a song for @waitwings documentary about ALLEGIANCE! The goal was to give it the dramatic vibes of a James Bond theme song and @juliajcaldwell sings it so perfectly in that style! The song "Sacrifice" starts at the 4:27 mark but beyond my song, the entire 2+hour documentary is ambitious, comprehensive, and absolutely worth checking out on Youtube! And timely too for #aapiheritagemonth !
ASCENT was not just a well-crafted & timely AAPI play, it was a wonderful tribute to playwright Henry Ong! It's a fitting swan song for Henry who excelled at retelling the real moving stories of AAPI immigrants like FABRIC and SWEET KARMA! Bravo to visionary director @dianawyenn , brilliantly textured performances by @trieutrue@irisliuofficial@russelled & Jorge-Luis Pallo, and the ethereal designs of @auaural@wongwestdesigns and the rest !!!!! Most of all congrats to Henry on being so famous!
Photos of my reading of PARITY at @caltechedu !!!!!!! Thank you to everyone who came, some of whom I missed taking a picture with including @jencvoice@gasagasagirl ! It was truly an honor to work with this particular group assembled and directed by intrepid director @sandratsingloh and featuring an actual world renown physicist @hirosi_ooguri ! Not to mention we got to do it in a place where Einstein once lectured. What a heady and humbling experience!
My office for the next few days is @caltechedu where my play PARITY will receive a staged reading in a new version that is radically different from my previous solo show version! It's about the real life legendary Chinese American physicist Chien Shiung Wu and her groundbreaking quest for scientific truth and love. My grad school professor and Caltech alum @sandratsingloh will be directing! You should come check it out for free (suggested donation $10) on May 13th, 4:30pm at the Feynman Lecture Hall!

@jullyleeig and I took our mothers to see FLOWER DRUM SONG at @eastwestplayers for Mother's Day! And they loved it! What a vibrant and HUGELY ambitious new version of this musical with an updated and improved book by @thedavidhenryhwang !!!!!! Congrats to so many friends who are shining in this and led by director @lilytungcrystal ! And it also made me a bit emotional about how far we've come as an AAPI community, starting back with a novel by CY Lee who I met and got to know a little before he passed. 😢 So proud to see this during #aapiheritagemonth!
I've rewritten PARITY into a full-length multi character play! We're reading Act 1 at Caltech on May 13th in their MACH 33 LAUNCHPAD Festival!

She was friends with Oppenheimer and Einstein AND yes she also worked on the Manhattan Project, as Jeopardy reminded us a few days ago with a clue about her! Hope to see you there!
