The Anti-ICE protests last year in LA was one of my favorite days in this city. It was beautiful to see thousands of people at every street corner in the city actively participating in civic discourse and speaking up for immigrants who are being harassed by “law enforcement.” At El Pueblo de Los Ángeles (the birthplace of LA) there was nothing but music and dancing. As I was headed home I watched the city from a bridge and noticed the LA Sherrif’s, who were watching idly for most of the day, seemingly get an order that they needed to quash the protest. Not because it had gotten out of hand or because it was late, but because they wanted to. By time I got home, all the news showed were police tear-gassing and pushing protesters & journalists. LAPD & LASD even accidentally tear-gassed each other lol. The media didn’t highlight the sense of community, dancing or public art that happened that day. All that to say: Getting outside and supporting your community is the best way to feel better in times like these. You’ll talk to great people and realize you’re more alike your neighbors than you are different. Looking at your screen only benefits the government who wants to scare you into submission and the tech/media companies who want to profit off of you 🤷🏿♂️ #staywoke
