18 days after my departure from the island, I’m still struggling to find the words to tell people about our time there: about the courage and generosity we witnessed, and the heartbreak of seeing how much more difficult everyday life has become for most Cubans in a few short months.

Seeing people struggle to survive should touch us and move us to act. Despite what those in power would have us believe, we are intertwined with one another, including with those far away, people we have never or are yet to meet. Our obligations to one another, our interdependence, know no borders or bloodlines.

I’m so proud of what we accomplished during these weeks and forever inspired by everyone with whom we collaborated, by Cuban friends and colleagues with indomitable spirits.

🇨🇦 | On March 21st, during a nationwide blackout in Cuba—the second that week— members of our organization, One Shared Future/Un Futuro Compartido, distributed solar-powered rechargeable lamps in the vicinity of Old Havana. These lamps were mostly given to mothers, elderly people, and to every house we found that was either completely dark or lit only by candlelight.
🇨🇺 | En la noche del 21 de marzo alrededor de las 10 p.m. mientras ocurría un apagón en toda Cuba, el segundo en la semana, miembros de nuestra organización One Shared Future/Un Futuro Compartido distribuyeron algunas lámparas recargables con energía solar en los alrededores de la Habana Vieja. Estas lámparas fueron mayormente entregadas en las manos de madres, personas ancianas, y en cada casa que encontramos totalmente a oscuras o simplemente alumbradas por la luz de una vela.

When solidarity crosses borders, impact grows.
Thanks to the donation from @pawsitforward , One Shared Future/Un Futuro Compartido was able to support several animal protection groups and independent rescuers in Cuba, including @aldameros , @ceda_cuba , and community-based caregivers who work every day to protect dogs and cats in vulnerable conditions.
Every collar, every leash, and every shared resource becomes care, love, and hope — for animals and for the people who stand by them.

From all of us at @onesharedfuture we would like to thank everyone who contributed resources in support of Cubans caring for their communities. The start of a new year is the time for all of us to image a better future ahead and we hope you will continue to work us to achieve this.
Rob and Stephen from the UK are good examples of how each of us can have an impact. They filled two backpacks full of period products, medicine, school supplies and candy for distribution in Havana. On Christmas day we created small packages and handed them out to children in Centro Havana as well as period products to their mothers.
The holidays for many of us have become a time for giving out of tradition rather than an understanding of the result when the few of us with much share with the many who have little.
Thank you to Rob, Stephen and the many others who contribute.
Desde @onesharedfuture , queremos agradecer a todos los que contribuyeron con recursos para apoyar a los cubanos que cuidan de sus comunidades. El comienzo de un nuevo año es el momento de imaginar un futuro mejor y esperamos que sigan colaborando para lograrlo.

Llenaron dos mochilas con productos para la menstruación, medicamentos, útiles escolares y dulces para distribuir en La Habana. El día de Navidad, preparamos pequeños paquetes y los repartimos a niños de Centro Habana, así como productos para la menstruación a sus madres.
Para muchos, las fiestas se han convertido en una época para dar por tradición, en lugar de comprender el resultado cuando los pocos que tenemos mucho compartimos con los muchos que tienen poco.
