Over the past few years, Masahiro LaMarsh’s grillz, which take anywhere from two weeks to two months to craft, have been seen at the Met Gala, on magazine covers, and on Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s Grand National Tour. They've also been featured in Erykah Badu's mouth. Thirteen works by the Dallas-raised, New York- based artist are now on view at the Dallas Contemporary through the end of August. When approaching a story like Densho—one rooted in history and family—we wanted to honor the past while focusing on the light, love, and resisiliance that carry through generations. Shigeto’s music and spirit were that guiding force.
This project came to life in the most organic way—through friendship, shared values, and a deep respect for the story we were telling.
Visually, we leaned into memory—shooting on 16mm, photographing family portraits, and incorporating personal achieves to make the film feel tactile and lived in.
This project means the world to us. Densho is what I stand for in film—collaborative, intimate, and rooted in real stories that remind us who we are and where we come from.
