Unpredictable rainfall severely impacts the food we eat.
In the face of varying weather patterns, farmers and producers, including our #TLpartner producers at @HillWild , @HimalayanHaatFarm , @TenaciousBeehive , and @Last_Forest , often have to contend with challenges such as landslides, logistical hurdles, and even changes in local diets.

This story is part of our Feeding the Future Project—a storytelling collaboration between @TheLocavore.in and Hands of Transition.
Hands of Transition is a global initiative that connects communities leading the transformation of food systems. Officially launched in 2025 by @Purpose , it brings design, storytelling, and ground-up action together to ensure that the people most affected by climate and food insecurity are also shaping the solutions.

From harvesting honey to growing indigenous vegetables, unpredictable rainfall severely impacts the food we eat.
The monsoon season in India typically lasts from June to September, and when not erratic, it supports over 50 percent of the country’s farmland. This year, wetter, more precarious rainfall caught regions across the country off-guard.
According to experts and news reports, India experienced almost double or 85.7 percent more rainfall than usual in the month of May. These fluctuating weather conditions often give rise to landslides, flash floods, and biodiversity loss, which become particularly difficult to navigate in steep, hilly regions.
In our new story, @YadhviShah gathers perspectives from our #TLpartner producers—@TenaciousBeehive , @HimalayanHaatFarm , @HillWild , and @Last_Forest —to understand some of these challenges, and how they deal with them.

This World Environment Day, we invite you to pause and think: how are the people who grow our food coping with climate change?
What does unpredictability look like for them—day after day, season after season? And what does it mean for the future of our local food systems?
To explore these questions, we turned to four of our #TLpartner producers—@WildJaiFarm based in Gir, Gujarat, @HimalayanHaatFarm and @Kuninda.in from Uttarakhand, and @HillWild , whose work spans Manipur and Nagaland.
Across these diverse geographies, climate change is no longer distant—it’s unfolding now. Mangoes ripen too early, storms destroy fruit just before harvest, and chillies are picked green to beat the rain. Yields fall, labour is scarce, and timelines unravel.
But what’s equally clear is the ingenuity and grit of these producers. From using weather apps to predict storms, to reviving indigenous crops that adapt slowly but surely, to rethinking planting patterns and diversifying incomes through agro-tourism—each is charting their own path forward.
Swipe through to hear directly from the fields—and learn what it truly means to grow food in a time of climate crisis.
You can learn more about our incredible #TLpartner producer community on @TheLocavore.in website.
