Sol (A Tribute to Sunshine)

I wrote this as a tribute, and rewrote the theme from scratch as it’s not originally written in G# Harmonic Minor. Only samples are the Icarus 1 Beacon, the onboard ship computer from the Icarus 2, and Rose Byrne vocals.

I haven’t felt as inspired to write music lately, mostly because of how much you have to adhere to structure for it to be playable or tolerable for most listeners.
I really love this Ore-Some Volts module by Nervous Squirrel. It has a vial filled with Uranium ore directly in front of a G-M Counter. As the Uranium goes through alpha decay, the module sends trigger or gate on 6 distinct outs, and one summed out.
I have the 6 distinct outs modulating a Doepfer A-111-6 and Endorphines Milky Way. I have the summed out going into an Expert Sleepers ES-9 and then mapped to a compression envelope via “CV In” in M4L in Ableton.
The compression envelope is ducking an Omnisphere arp behind the VCO every time it undergoes a random modulation via one of the distinct CV triggers.
About midway through the video, after I have the knobs on the VCO dialed in, I go hands-off and let the randomized modulation take full control. The variations it produces are really beautiful, and that randomness can create that complex beauty is exciting.
