I won’t be singing with these beatific souls @idrisi.ensemble in November in London, but I suggest anyone in the UK not to miss this magnificent opportunity to catch them here @unionchapeluk . As far as sacred chant goes, this ensemble will burn the house down, and melt your heart along with it ā¤ļø

I remember hearing this song for the first time and being deeply struck by the magic of the imagery and the hypnotic quality of the melody. I don’t know anyone who wrote songs like Leonard Cohen. I have the honour of performing this and many other of Leonard Cohen’s songs in a live show. Maybe I’ll see you at one of them soon. @conniechatwinmusic on violin & backing vocals @ficonmo on backing vocals Sunita Dugal on backing vocals @georgerichardsonbass on bass . . . . #leonardcohen #suzanne

I’ve got a crush on you… šŸ’˜ last week my OG favourite singer left her body, aged 97: Cleo Laine. My father (currently a mere 89) referred to her as his ā€œpin upā€ - we would listen to her album with the guitarist John Williams ā€œBest Friendsā€ every Christmas together during dinner. That album remains on of my all time favourites, along with her 1987 album ā€œWoman To Womanā€, featuring songs written exclusively by women. I had the good fortune to hear her at Ronnie Scotts around 13 years ago, and again in Cambridge during my university days. She was still fantastic. She represented some kind of divine mother to me, with her rich, deep and multi-octave voice so full of emotion. Her singing is so real, so deeply from the heart, so personal, almost conversational. Clearly that’s had a big influence on me… I also love that she was originally a West-Londoner, as I seem to have become (for now)… and how you can really hear her London accent in her singing. I don’t know why she doesn’t seem to be so well known these days. She really was one of the absolute best, and totally unique. Most of her records seem to be out of print, and not on streaming platforms either. I’d love that to change. I had a longtime secret wish to sing to her before she died. The demons of perfectionism, procrastination and self-doubt put paid to that, alas… but I suppose this can be my little tribute to her, and, I’ve always felt her influence, her presence, within my own singing - not that I’m anything on her… She sung this song on her 1983 album ā€œThat Old Feelingā€. I just had a listen after recording this and was blown away by her softness, precision and control… amazing… I’m thinking of Alec Dankworth, @jacquelinedankworth and @emilydankworth at this time. So go and listen to Cleo… or come visit and we can put on a record! šŸŽ¶ the world still needs her voice. . . . #cleolaine #johnwilliams #laufeyland @laufeys_valentine @laufeys_soulmate @laufey_our_magnolia laufeytoday @laufeyclub #laufey tagging u guys as laufey is giving the jazz of today :-) #jazz #jazzsinger #jazzsingers #franksinatra #franksinatramusic @sinatra #tonybennett #ellafitzgerald @firstladyofsong

As you’ll likely know, Brian Wilson left his body a few days ago. His music had a profound influence on me. I remember being introduced to Pet Sounds (by my grown-up brother) when I was about 13 and being utterly blown away by the chords and the arrangements, and the emotional depth of the songs. Sometimes I think The Beach Boys get a bad rap - people can assume they are just fun-in-sun music about surfing and girls. But The Beach Boys are *deep*… the music is so creative, and no-one writes chord progressions like Brian Wilson did. Subsequent albums like Friends, Sunflower, Surf’s Up etc etc are some of my favourite records. Go and listen to Little Bird from Friends, or Our Prayer, or Till I Die if you don’t believe me… But also, those harmonies! Me and my bros would sing the final tag of God Only Knows together… here is a little late night solo version of it. Excuse the nighttime lighting, and indeed my puffy eyes and tired voice - I’m just back from performing with @idrisi.ensemble in Koko… but I wanted to put something up as a tribute to Brian before too long passed… @brianwilsonlive @thebeachboys #brianwilson #thebeachboys

The Leonard Cohen Experience is returning! Hello friends; you may or may not know that one of my biggest influences is Leonard Cohen. His songs marry the profane and the spiritual and take no prisoners. A couple of years ago I put on a successful tour of his music. I’m bringing it back, starting in May. I’d be honoured to see you there. You can book tickets following the link in my bio. @leonardcohen #leonardcohen

Musik has always been a part of me as long as I can remember, It’s a way for me to express my thoughts and emotions. I wrote this song 5 years ago, unknowing what to do with it. With time the song grew and had a purpose. A couple of weeks ago I flew to London to meet up with my dearest friend @henrytozer who is one of the most talented piano player, I know of. Together as a team, we managed to bring this song to life.

I remember being shocked when I first listened to John Lennon’s home demo of ā€œNow And Thenā€ - the chord changes into this section of the song are unusual, and strangely enough, are similar to the sort of chords and feels within the music that I myself compose. This section wasn’t part of the new Beatles single, and I totally respect that creative choice - it makes it more accessible and Beatley - but I wanted to include it within my piano version. Please do listen to it on my youtube if you haven’t already, and share šŸ¤ for a long time I’ve had a crazy dream of collaborating with Paul to help him make perhaps one last truly great record (I know - that sounds so arrogant: but, although I love everything Paul does, I know that he makes his best work when someone doesn’t let him get away with anything that’s not as good as he could possibly make it)… so maybe Paul hearing this piano version of Now And Then could be a step towards that šŸ™ƒ - and if you’d like to tag Paul or anyone relevant then do feel free! . . . . @thebeatles #thebeatles #beatles #beatlesnowandthen #johnlennon #johnlennonforever #johnlennonnowandthen @johnlennon @paulmccartney #paulmccartney @georgeharrisonofficial #georgeharrison @ringostarrmusic #ringostarr @oliviaharrison @dhaniharrison #beatlespiano #nowandthen #beatlesforever
