I am thrilled to have photographed the new cover story for T: The New York Times Style Magazine, Design issue. Online now, in print 29th March. This magical, special house is set deep within the South Downs National Park. The family home of Blanka and Bernhard von der Becke — Blanka, an artist, born and raised in Prague, and Bernhard, a German print dealer, woodworker and photographer — the two of them were keepers of this extraordinary place for fifty years. Blanka passed away in 2021, and Bernhard died in December, aged 92. His daughter Carla, a dear friend, grew up in this house and returned to care for him in his final years. “The house feels even more like a place apart, at once ancient and separated from time — though not immune to its ravages. But the property continues to enchant visitors, and Carla often hosts art world friends for summer lunches and residencies that allow deeper immersion in its inspirational environment.” Words by @aimee_farrell .
