What a spring. What a group. What a joy.
The last weeks with this deeply inspiring constellation of artists at Iaspis have been nothing short of transformative. From collective wonder during Cecilia Vicuñaâs lecture, to archival deep dives at the Swedish National Archives and the Ethnographic Museumâevery encounter sparked new questions, echoes, and directions.
We stood in the charged presence of Mike Kelleyâs work, guided by Hendrik Folkertsâ precise, generous curatorial eye. We explored the uncanny narratives of Lap-See Lamâs world alongside the ever-thoughtful Asrin Haidari.
Francoise VergĂšs reminded us of the radical act of unlearning. Of refusal. Of dreaming otherwise.
We spoke of curating at the edge of collapse together with Tawanda Appiahâwhat it means to hold space amidst rupture, complexity, and exhaustion. What it means to offer something real without pretending to resolve it. That conversation and the performances and video works premiered still echoe.
In between: openings, dinners, laughter, late-afternoon talks, and the slow solidifying of friendships across geographies and histories.

The IASPIS international residency programmes offer a place and time for artistic development, international cross-boundary meetings and the exchange of knowledge. The programmes include residencies both in Sweden and abroad.
The residency programme in Sweden comprises nine places in the Swedish Arts Grants Committeeâs premises in Stockholm and three that are organised in collaboration with local actors in Gothenburg, Malmö and UmeĂ„.
Abroad, the programme provides residencies that are organised in collaboration with organisations around the world.
The IASPIS residency programme in Stockholm has nine studios, four for Sweden-based and five for international artists in the field of visual and applied arts.
The residency programme aims at international exchange and is focused on exploratory artistic work, which can be both practical and theoretical. Sweden-based artists apply for the programme, international artists with activities outside Sweden are invited by IASPIS.
For three to six months, artists are offered the opportunity to work in their own studio, meet colleagues from Sweden and all over the world and take part in the entire IASPIS activities. The Artist in Residence has access to a studio in the Swedish Arts Grants Committeeâs premises as well as a grant to cover the costs of subsistence, accommodation and other expenses.

âȘïž3:15 PM The Roles We Play: Exploring Participation in Art
Rebecka Hansson in conversation with Tova Gerge, Writer, Performer and Project Manager (Dance Studio)

Welcome to IASPIS Open Studios Spring 2025
For one day only, the doors to IASPIS at Maria Skolgata 83 open wide to the public. Artists, architects, and choreographers currently in residence invite you into their studios for a day of dialogue, process, and shared inquiry. Across IASPIS, spatial experiments, moving images, embodied languages, and sonic landscapes unfoldâoffering glimpses into how stories take form through material, place, and relations.
Throughout the day, residents host conversations, performances, and screenings together with invited guests: artists Johanna Billing and Jens FÀnge, architect Sara Brolund de Carvalho, curators Ulrika Flink, Hendrik Folkerts, and Joanna Sandell, writer Tova Gerge, and researcher Elof Hellström. The day also features a sign language poetry performance by Amina Ouahid. Stay and connect with the practices and the questions and urgencies shaping them.
