REVIEW of Instead, It Bore a Tulip by Tawfik Naas (@torfhick ) at Bolding Gallery (@bolding__ ) out now on Whitehot Magazine (@whitehotmagazine ) 🌷 half conversation half essay it was so fun to write 🌟 Instead, It Bore a Tulip marks an evolution in Tawfik Naas’s long-term research-led practice, now in its eighth year. It was on display at Bolding Gallery in Marylebone 19 July - 2 August. Tawfik Naas is a Libyan practitioner based in London whose work explores how historic trauma is carried, remembered, shared, and transformed. Naas borrows from ecological systems and transposes them into environments that offer alternative ways of witnessing the past. Tawfik is also selling prints on Bolding’s website to raise money for eSIMs in Gaza! I got twoooo versions…   Double Announcement! BLUEPRINTS at Corner and ANY PERSON, ANY STUDY at window135!   Blueprints is a group exhibition featuring mixed-media works and works-in-progress of artists living and working in London. The show meets each artist at a crossroads, as they pivot and begin to chart a new course. Some works are themselves blueprints: ways of mapping out, theorising, documenting, something which is otherwise ineffable. Others are more like drafts: material experiments, the beginnings of a love affair with a newfound interest, a line or two thrown at the wall to see if it sticks.   Any Person, Any Study is a solo presentation of the work of Maya King-Dabbs at window135. Inspired by the constraints of the window, Maya’s display presents an uncanny recreation of the late 20th-century American suit shop. ‘Any Person, Any Study’, the motto of Cornell University, takes on a new meaning in this hallucination of a shopfront: with these suits, hats, timepieces, trinkets, ‘anyone’ can become ’someone’.   Blueprints is open 4-14th September; Any Person, Any Study is on display 8-21st September. Blueprints opening times follow Corner cafe’s opening times. The window is on display 24/7. Audiences will be invited to view both spaces whilst they are open simultaneously.    Details of events to follow, but you are all invited to Corner Lates on the evening of Thursday 4th to meet the artists and celebrate the opening of Blueprints. Looking forward to seeing you then!   Matilde Araoz Ellis @mati_araoz_ Rebekka Homann @rbkkah Maya King-Dabbs @mayaluciayayaya Thomas Hodges-Gilbert @tomhg135 Ru King-Dabbs @_rulovesyou Noah Perkins @tristecolline._ Matilde Converio @matildeconverio And with curatorial support from Nivriti Suresh @_kinggizzard !   Map courtesy of the Ordinance Survey

🌟 POETRY WORKSHOP WITH OLUWASEUN OLAYIWOLA (@itsamule ) 🌟 Join us on Weds 2nd July, 6-8pm, for a poetry workshop with poet, critic, and choreographer Oluwaseun Olayiwola. Seun will draw on the themes of the exhibition, Appendix | Index, and invite participants to create and write based on the work in the show. Participants will be invited into Seun’s poetic practice, and will explore the intersections of word, image, and body. 📍 Hypha Gallery 2, Sugar House Island, 107 High Street, E15 2TP 📅 Weds 2nd July, 6-8pm 🎟️Tickets (£4.50/£8.50) book via the link in bio 🔗 Appendix | Index is a group exhibition curated by Aram Masharqa, featuring the work of ten artists living and working in London: Karina Akopyan, Molly Burrows, Matilde Converio, Millie Earthy, Simone Bashir-Ellis, Maya King-Dabbs, Paul Majek, Tawfik Naas, Kelly Wu, and performances by Jessica Panchi-Pacheco. The show investigates the ‘bookend’, the fragments which hold the book together and offer new ways to unlock, re-enter, or clarify the ‘main body’. Relegated to the backmatter, these extra parts are both redundant and fundamental to our understanding. They ask, what kind of knowledges, if any, are possible from inside the part? Oluwaseun (Seun) Olayiwola is a poet, critic, choreographer and performer based in London. He published his debut collection of poetry, Strange Beach, with Fitzcarraldo Editions in 2025. His creative and critical work has been published in the Guardian, The Poetry Review, PN Review, Oxford Poetry, the Telegraph, the TLS and elsewhere. His choreographic work has been presented at the V&A, The Place, The Central School of Ballet, and Studio Voltaire. Image 1: Elle Rene

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for Appendix | Index curated by @helched ! And massive congrats to all the artists and curators involved! 📍Hypha Gallery 2, Sugar House Island, 107 High Street, E15 4QZ 🗓️ Open: 6th June - 12th July, Wednesday - Saturday, 12-6pm 🎟️ Keep an eye on Hypha’s Eventbrite for all upcoming events! 💭 Appendix | Index is a group exhibition curated by Aram Masharqa featuring the work of ten artists living and working in London. The title borrows from the backmatter of books, and considers what kind of knowledge or sense is possible without the main body. The show is divided into two parts, and each work on display belongs to one or the other part. Appendix leans into its ‘other’ meaning: the anatomical appendage. Instead of revealing knowledges which are latent within the body, Appendix imagines what kinds of knowledge could ever be possible inside those parts which are ‘extra’, ‘unnecessary’. The artists approach the appendix to varying degrees of literalism: overflowing bodies, found objects, a proliferation of office stationery, an excess of discarded materials, and so on. Index centres on its nature as a list of small items which point towards larger wholes, owing to its ‘dextrous’, finger-pointing etymological root. These works gesture towards universal, intangible worlds - heritage, national memory, fate - by tracking movements on the minutely specific and personal scale. Integral to the index is the accident or coincidence, the thing which by itself is small, but which speaks to an entire world outside the horizon of our understanding. 👤 Exhibited Artists Karina Akopyan @karinaakopyan_ Molly Burrows @mollyburrowsart Matilde Converio @matildeconverio Millie Earthy @mil_earthy Simone Ellis @epic_pink_princess Maya King-Dabbs @mayaluciayayaya Paul Majek @paul_majek Tawfik Naas @torfhick Kelly Wu @kellywustudio Performances by Jessica Panchi-Pacheco @jessica.panchi Workshops by Matilde Converio, Molly Burrows, and special guest Oluwaseun Olayiwola @itsamule Kindly supported by @vastintuk in partnership with @hyphastudios 📸 Photos by @kinga.jpg
