Enjoy a relaxed in-person speed dating event for LGBTQ+ women, trans and non-binary people. For each date, you’ll have 5 minutes to spark up a good conversation. We will start the event with some ice-breaker conversations to ease off any nerves. You’ll get a digital form at the end of the evening to fill out, and we’ll use that to send your mutual matches so you can keep the conversation going without us. We will give you the options of date or friend on the form, so no pressure on finding love you could also find a friend! When you arrive, feel free to get a drink (non-alcoholic options available) or snack at the bar and we will make an announcement when the event begins. At the end of the speed dating, you will get the opportunity to grab a drink all together at the bar. Date: 17 April Time: 7-8:30pm (please arrive promptly as late admissions past 15 minutes may not be admitted) Location: Corner Cafe, 117 New Cross Road, SE14 5DJ Accessibility: There are two steps between street access and the event space. A ramp is available, but please bear in mind this will involve travelling over gravel. Cost: £20 standard, £15 concession, £10 low income. Booking in advance is essential as we have venue caps. Book at sapphoevents.co.uk Sappho Events welcomes LGBTQ+ women, trans and non-binary people to our events.

✊After yesterday's election announcements, who could use a little activism, and some goddamn well deserved pleasure?! 🫂Our gorgeous community has voted for the amazing adrienne maree brown's book Pleasure Activism for our next discussion. If you want to take part in the next vote, join our lovely Whatsapp community linked in the bio. ☕️Join us for a relaxed discussion on the topics raised in the book on Tues 2nd June from 6:30-8:00pm at Corner, New Cross. 📚Storygraph describes the book: "How do we make social justice the most pleasurable human experience? How can we awaken within ourselves desires that make it impossible to settle for anything less than a fulfilling life? Editor adrienne maree brown finds the answer in something she calls “pleasure activism,” a politics of healing and happiness that explodes the dour myth that changing the world is just another form of work. Drawing on the black feminist tradition, including Audre Lourde’s invitation to use the erotic as power and Toni Cade Bambara’s exhortation that we make the revolution irresistible, the contributors to this volume take up the challenge to rethink the ground rules of activism. Writers including Cara Page of the Astraea Lesbian Foundation For Justice, Sonya Renee Taylor, founder of This Body Is Not an Apology, and author Alexis Pauline Gumbs cover a wide array of subjects— from sex work to climate change, from race and gender to sex and drugs—creating new narratives about how politics can feel good and how what feels good always has a complex politics of its own. Building on the success of her popular Emergent Strategy, brown launches a new series of the same name with this volume, bringing readers books that explore experimental, expansive, and innovative ways to meet the challenges that face our world today. Books that find the opportunity in every crisis!"
