Wowowow, a couple more reflections after working at
@haystack_school with
@maine_crafts_association :
By chance, I ended up in a blacksmithing workshop - something I thought might be beneficial for me as I venture into new physical shapes that my relief prints live on. I had a vision for a circular hanging lamp, and despite never having swung a hammer (and often missing what I was aiming for), when I showed the instructor my drawing,
@arkoplik smiled and supported me through the process of forging two circles, four hooks, and something for it all to hang on. It’s actually hilarious to me that I came out of the weekend with something remotely close to what I envisioned. Grateful for
@presstoprints who suggested I come print and work with familiar materials, and
@candice_methe who never seemed to mind when I snacked in the ceramics studio. Everything snapped into place around 10PM Saturday night when I wandered into the studio of
@kgelardi and started quilting together the scraps from the work of her class to rough out the form for the future lamp.
I can’t wait to show the lamp in all its glory, but it deserves its own post and special shoutouts to the creators whose scraps I sewed together!
While I can pretty confidently say that I don’t think blacksmithing is for me, I have a new respect for anyone in that world, as well as spoons, forks and fire tools.
Missing the late nights of wandering through studios, instructors and students welcoming me into their spaces even tho I wasn’t in their class, newfound friendships solidified over mind blowing color, shapes, forms and essence.
