An unbelievable honour to be part of this cast. I'm speechless.
1000xRESIST @1000xresist
sunset visitor 斜陽過客 and Fellow Traveller
1000xResist is a narrative adventure game that tells an interactive, non-linear science-fiction story in which time and memory are core game mechanics.
Created by a team of majority Asian-Canadian creators led by Remy Siu, at its emotional center is the dissolution of the 2019 Hong Kong demonstrations through which the game deftly explores issues of intergenerational trauma, historical revisionism, identity, resistance, and the diasporic experience.
Set one thousand years in the future, the game explores how humanity—in the form of a single teenage girl, Iris the ALLMOTHER, and her many generations of clones— survive a global pandemic brought on by the arrival of alien lifeforms called the Occupants. In the role of Watcher, players experience the ALLMOTHER’s memories to understand the hidden and unsettling truth of their past and the society they have built. For compelling us to reflect on “what should stay and what should go,” to think about how to live with our past while moving forward, and to choose the future we desire, 1000xRESIST wins a Peabody Award.

Opening week has been a dream 🍃
Thank you @gctclive and Ottawa audiences for engaging so deeply with the work and sharing your reflections. Every day I leave the theatre with my heart filled to the brim. I can't wait for week two!!!
@riceandbeanstheatre has championed this piece for many years, and I will never be able to repay them for this great gift. Thank you for believing in me and this team.
@neworldtheatre thank you for generously coming on board! I feel so lucky to not only be part of the team, but to also be supported as an artist outside of my Producer role.
We've got 7 shows left! If you have friends or family in Ottawa please send them our way. Soon we'll be back in West Vancouver for a handful of shows at the Kay Meek Arts Centre 💚

Late night reflections on over a decade of art making. It's tempting to want to just talk about accomplishments, because that's what these algos reward us for. Tonight, I'm more interested in why I'm still here.
Because, despite the near constant heartache, I still believe that sharing stories is essential to being human. And being a storyteller in community with other artists for the last 15 years has been the greatest privilege and gift of my life.
10 years ago, I began the process of interviewing my mother and relearning the childhood songs my grandmother taught me. The rich and life changing experience of working on the Mother Tongue Project with my artistic partner En Lai evolved into Jade Circle. With a village of storytellers and artists, we created this artistic offering and meditation.
Two years ago today, Jade Circle met its first audience. Now, we prepare to bring the piece to new audiences in Ottawa @gctclive April 28-May 10, and West Vancouver @kaymeekartscentre May 20-24 💚
Thank you to @riceandbeanstheatre and @neworldtheatre for continuing to champion this piece and supporting us in telling a multilingual intergenerational story.
Yesterday marked the end of the Chinese New Year spring festival period. Before galloping into the Year of the Horse, I'm taking a minute to pause.
The Year of the Snake brought so many new challenges. They say when it's your ben ming nian (zodiac year), it can be full of setbacks and misfortune, but if you face the challenges head on, it can lead to opportunity and growth.
There were so many times this year where I was full of paralyzing fear, doubt, and dread, taking on things I had never done before or was returning to after a long time away. I often wasn't sure how I would get through. Thankfully, with a ton of support, those became golden opportunities where I felt my capacity expand and I learned A LOT. In short, I got through it 🫠
Thank you to anyone who gave me a chance this year, and gave me the space to try new things.
From producing international and national tours, developing/directing new works, joining a DnD campaign, reconnecting with loved ones, reading more books, to finally cooking more days out of the week, this past year helped me to find my feet again and venture out into uncharted territory. Thank you, snake year🐍💚

DIRECTOR'S NOTES
The Baking Show Show: The Play takes us into the mind of Grace. Like a bright candy apple, beneath the confection coating, lies a darker core.
Faly’s biting new comedy, brings us into the manufactured world of reality tv and asks, what does the relentless pursuit of perfection do to the human soul? When your world view dictates that there are only winners and losers, what will you do to get to the top? And what is waiting for you when you get there?
We witness Grace, with her insatiable desire for success, weigh her humanity against her need for validation. For many of us, this might feel familiar. The time we spend fixated on comparison and how we measure up against perceived competition. In rooting for Grace, perhaps we see in her parts of ourselves, underdogs taking on systems that are stacked against us.
The Baking Show Show: The Play embraces paradox; something you love can be the thing that brings you pain; striving for excellence, the hungry ghost that can never be fed; and the taste of success, which can give you the greatest high, can also bring you to your knees.
Baking is a precise art form, but human emotions are not. Faly has embraced the messiness of Grace’s internal world and turned that inside out for all to see. Like all homemade treats, The Baking Show Show: The Play was made with love and we hope you enjoy.
