Behind every detail of The Enchanted Nook at @pasadenashowcasehouse is a story—and a lot of custom craftsmanship. While the murals themselves were custom designed and entirely hand-painted, the artistry didn’t stop at the walls. We reupholstered a vintage chair in rich green fur, then hand-painted its carved details to coordinate perfectly with the mural—adding whimsy, texture, and a tactile layer to the space. Above, we created a glowing midnight floral sky using dried flowers, fairy lights, and suspended glass terrariums. Hidden behind the murals, warm twinkling lights illuminate the cottage windows and lanterns, bringing the forest to life after dark. To deepen the nighttime magic, we added a glowing moon with a tiny projector and pushed fiber optics directly through the walls to create twinkling stars overhead. And perhaps the most magical detail of all: nine metal lanterns integrated directly into the mural, each fitted with touch sensors and audio. Touch a lantern, and the fairytale painted beside it comes alive—narrated by professional actors with original music and sound effects. Sit back in a cozy chair, listen to your favorite stories, and gaze up at the stars inside your own enchanted woodland hideaway. How do you create a space that feels truly personal? In the Masterclass Series from @hattasstudios , twins Jeanine Hattas Wilson and Julie Kennedy share their approach to designing with custom art in mind—and why customization changes everything. Every project starts with understanding the client: 
Who are they?
What do they love?
How do they want to feel in the space? But at @pasadenashowcasehouse , there was no traditional client. So the twins imagined the original homeowner, Clara Baldwin—not as an adult, but as a 6-year-old girl escaping into a magical reading nook to enjoy her favorite fairy tales. To personalize the space, Hattas Studios painted little Clara directly into the murals, in front of a painting of Baldwin Oaks Estate itself, weaving her story into the artwork. Wanting the room to feel sophisticated as well as whimsical, the twins drew inspiration from the Wimmelbuch style—layering the murals with intricate storytelling details—while coordinating the palette with the beautiful Dunn-Edwards colors selected for the house. And because the murals were custom, every inch was designed specifically for the tiny 4-by-4-foot closet, fitting the room like a glove. That’s the beauty of custom murals:
