“Golden Hour” is an new 8”x 10” oil available at the Crystal Cove Store. I followed this painting up with the same view a little later, just after sunset, with the beach campfires, which I’ll post later. I love this time of day along the coast, when everything glows with warm light, the beach is starting to quiet down, and they raise the traditional martini flag at the Beachcomber cafe. A unique experience, only at Crystal Cove.

“Ocean and PCH” is a new plein air painting, one of my Laguna Beach ‘local’ series for the Laguna Festival of Arts this summer. I’m always looking for scenes of daily life in this charming coastal town to capture on canvas, and it never disappoints. So much variety, so much activity, so much beautiful light! The Festival runs from July 7 through September 3.

This weekend is the opening of “Ojai Mystique”, paintings by 19 nationally renowned artists, at the Ojai Valley Museum. Starting with a ticketed Preview Reception tonight, a free public opening on Friday evening, a downtown paint-out on Saturday followed by an Artist Talk with Carolyn Lord, Wendy Wirth and myself. Each exhibiting artist was asked to create a large masterwork and a smaller companion piece, reflecting the enduring beauty and spirit of the Ojai Valley. A couple of new paintings for the Crystal Cove store at Crystal Cove State Park. I always take 3 or 4 canvas panels with me whenever I paint down there, hoping to get in at least two finished paintings (depending how distracted I am exploring or swimming!) The second painting of the sunset was a quick piece to cap off another beautiful day at the cove, before joining friends at the beach bar!
