Named for the Greek word for sun, Ílios reimagines a 1980s Southern California residence as a contemporary expression of Greek and Armenian heritage, shaped by light, proportion, material restraint, and an elliptical oculus that traces the movement of the sun throughout the day.

June 2023 feature of our recently completed home for Hollywood icon RuPaul
This project was a joy to create. We worked closely with visionary @martynbullard to transform this lack-luster 1980s Beverly Hills mansion into a decadent Hollywood Regency style home inspired by the timeless 1930s homes of film directors who defined the Golden Age of Hollywood; a home truly worthy of the drag superstar. The final product is a labor of love created by an incredible team.
Big thanks to @rupaulofficial for being such an amazing client; and also to @martynbullard for giving us the opportunity to be so involved in your design process. Special shoutout to @jameshyattstudio as well for creating an iconic landscape and site design that is truly emblematic of the era worthy of such a house. How does Hatch design a house that emerges from the land?
This is the process behind the Sacred Rock House, one of six homes envisioned for an undisclosed wellness resort in the mountains outside San Diego.
Each house is conceived as a distinct response to site, climate, and the layered microclimates that shape Southern California. Together, they explore how architecture can draw us into closer relationship with the natural world, deepen our awareness of self, and invite a way of living that feels grounded, reciprocal, and alive.
The larger vision is centered on longevity, understood not simply as duration, but as presence, meaning, and connection.
For me, design begins in uncharted territory. The path is rarely clear at the outset. It is discovered gradually through sketching, testing, and listening, until the work reveals its form.

Designed as an immersive art gallery, the home unfolds in a U-shape around a central garden, framing a layered experience of art, water, landscape, and skyline.
From morning light in the east to sunsets over Miami in the west, the architecture transforms with the day.

A fluid form overlooking Biscayne Bay, designed as a fully immersive art gallery. The U-shaped footprint encircles a garden, creating a unique viewing experience where architecture frames nature, water, and city in equal measure.

A case study in eliminating the threshold between inside and out. Mass walls and roof planes pass by each other, deconstructing form until the building dissolves. What remains: a labyrinth of gardens and villas where inhabitants co-live with the desert.

Le Petit Pali, Laguna Beach is a careful rehab of a 1950s mid-century coastal motel, reimagined as the flagship for PaliSociety’s newest brand, @lepetitpali . We focused on preserving the original spirit while elevating every detail: warm courtyards, ocean light, and a palette that feels sun-washed and timeless.
A project about restraint, character, and letting the building’s history do the talking.

Date palms stand like stewards, flanking a facade that unveils itself with deliberate restraint — stone, steel, and shadow choreographed in harmony with the Sonoran desert’s terrain.
At Gardens & Villas, the brief was pure and resonant: let the desert feel like home. The result is a dwelling that inhales and exhales with the land — where every opening captures a mountain’s profile, every material is chosen to patina with beauty, and the line between indoors and outdoors blurs seamlessly into the surrounding landscape it reveres.
