Alrighty Instagram, I’m breaking my feed hiatus. I’ll be honest, while I check DM’s and post on my story, it’s been quite freeing not worrying about “content”. That being said, this post is going to be a long one, so let’s hope the algorithm doesn’t bury it.
So what’s up? It was a long winter. December was a blessing with some much needed time off, and allowed me to kick things into gear January thru March. I got the bug up my ass to overhaul the entire live show and start from scratch with playback and production additions, and build out a new Ableton session after 2.5 years of an increasingly busy session framed around nonstop touring.
The beginning of March started with 8 days of rehearsals to get the band caught up with the new musical additions, a new console, and a new playback system. After configuring a 21 song headlining set, spending a week off fine tuning the session, flying to Sacramento for a one-off stop on the Teddy Swims tour, and flying straight back into rehearsals in Nashville, the band pulled off the third annual Breland & Friends benefit concert.
On top of MD’ing out the tour set, this was also my first year musically directing Breland & Friends, and I couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out. 26 songs, 16 guests, 9 guest songs, a bespoke musical intro, and quite a bit of sweat, but everyone pulled it off, in what was likely our most musically diverse year yet. Brelands’ music always dictates a fusing of styles but we really tapped into all of our influences, from R&B, to pop, to rock, all encompassed under the country umbrella.
To sum it all up, I’m thankful to the boss and my team for trusting me, even if I didn’t show anyone the arrangements until a week before rehearsals 👀
Thank you to:
