The performance of my Trans Requiem the other night was one of the most important musical experiences I have ever been a part of. I am blown away by the commitment of every single musician who sang and played my music. I am going to post a few videos this week, but the full performance can be found in my bio! Thank you to @docmelbaker for making all this happen, thank you to Melissa Attebury for working with me so hard to bring the piece to life, thank you to my soloists @breannaelycesinclaire and @g0furtherr - Trans is beautiful, and you both are such beautiful souls and voices, and you are needed and wanted. Thank you to @nthatchr who always always makes my writing look more cohesive and beautiful. Thank you @sadqueer4life for allowing me to use this powerful poem. Thank you to the @trinitychurchnyc for not only welcoming us to the space, but projecting our colors in your house. Thank you to the team at Trinity for capturing the sound so beautifully. I am so excited for you all to hear it.
1000 posts on instagram! I figured I would take this time to check in and tell you about what’s going on in my life. 1. Me in front of a bodega dressed in my favorite @megest1994 clothing. I am trans, and my pronouns are she or they.
2. I am the very fortunate partner of @drowned1nsound and mother to my child Otis. He calls me ama.
3. I have received two Grammy awards with my people @attaccaquartet -We also play shows and make people happy.
4. I have developed a rewarding solo presence playing concerti and my solo show “Halfie”.
5. I have a duo I love playing in with my friend @carolineadelaideshaw
6. A few years ago I helped start a magical organization called @chamberqueer with my friends @goodhelpdanielle@biberoni and @bmumstagram
7. I compose music, some for stage and some for screen.
8. I love to make art. This is my favorite lemon.
A lot of you have asked about the dress I was wearing yesterday and I have been excited to show you all since it’s creation. The brilliant @angelilli_official designed this dress for me, as well as dressing @violinist_amy_schroeder and the love of my life @drowned1nsound (rocking the fiercest, gorgeous tuxedo dyke look of the year), and after I was measured, squeezed, boosted and spun for a week by the genius Jenny Couture I was ready to wear it to the #grammys . I can’t state enough what a beautiful process it was. Sam heard me when I told her the styles I felt beautiful in and ones that made me feel self conscious. She designed with an eye for beauty, but her heart was there to make me feel myself, and it is something I will never forget.
Trans representation was at a new level this year at the GRAMMYs (I see you @recordingacademy ) and thanks to you, Sam, a whole generation of trans kids and other folk got to see me show up as myself on that stage. Thank you. Hair by @sullylayo makeup by @marinagravani official photo by @benjoarwas
The Light After from the new album ‘or, The Whale’ (out yesterday) is a piece I wrote about coming out of the other side of a hard time with grace. I wrote it for my friend @docmelbaker it was one of my first commissions and I am so proud it is out in the world. Also, stay to the end to hear an achingly beautiful solo that @carolineadelaideshaw takes
Today’s Video of the Day is a performance of Trees of Green-wood by Caroline Shaw and Andrew Yee.
This comes from the duo’s new album, ‘Or, The Whale’.
The album features a programme shaped by collaboration, conversation, and the creative freedom that emerges beyond the rehearsal room.

‘or The Whale’ is out in its entirety now! Words can’t describe how proud I am of this record. It is the product of two people who didn’t just get together and make music, but it was always an excuse to hang out, be together. We liked being in the same space, so we made it happen. This album is a combination of pieces we wrote together and pieces we offered to each other. I really hope you find something in it for you. Thank you to our brilliant producer @christopherbotta for being the third collaborator on this album, your presence makes me a better musician. Thank you to @weareplatoon for believing in this album, we will see you in 4 days at @kingsplacelondon - thank you most of all to @carolineadelaideshaw for being the kind of person you are. You make me a better musician by just being around, I’m so proud to be your friend. Link in the bio to listen!
New Single out today! “The Trees of Green-Wood” by Andrew Yee. This is our final single out before the release of the full album “or, The Whale” on May 15th! The piece is a list of all the Trees in @historicgreenwood and was written for a show we did in a crypt on the grounds there. This is a special one for both of us, and we are so happy to share it with you! Full music video by @son.of_zorn out on May 15th! Recorded, mixed and mastered by the lovely @christopherbotta
Tested and loved these new strings by @opal.strings - the Opal Gold strings have an incredible depth and warmth that will do me well for a while! #opalgoldstrings #opalstrings #cellostrings

This piece means the world to me. It encapsulates so much of how I feel about our world right now. It rips questions from my heart. How can we find our humanity again? How have we lost our way to this degree, when a piece like this is here for us to remind us of one of our most despicable times? The Quartet For The End of Time remains frustratingly relevant in modern day, and I can’t believe I got to add my take after all these years after studying the piece with my beloved mentor Fred Sherry. And to hear the chords in a human voice so effortlessly by @carolineadelaideshaw brings the work back to our bodies in a way I will never be able to un-hear. It isn’t on Spotify yet, so support any other platform.
