i'm starting to wonder if there's really a lesson if I do reach a bit further, just a bit further, down at the bottom of grief. maybe it's the after math that counts- these pieces I collected, the warmth that is left from the hands i borrowed. maybe after all, this was all about you all along, like what you thought I said, even though it wasn't used to be, not at all, in its entirety. Maybe in the aftermath, I would finally be remembered, being the one who taught you to cup that cusp of warmth against your palm; my palm.
This week I finally finished my residency at @airsprogram at Bruce Elementary School! Starting out with making a collage of their personal memories, students navigate how memories changed and co-create a collective memory from each of their work, embodying the relationships between rupture and care through techniques of mending, creative scanning, weaving etc. I'm so thankful to be a part of this, it has taught me so much about what community-oriented art can look like/ can be, and all the way through I was so wowed by the wisdom each of my students carry with them. A student in my class called it "Country of Memory" so I guess that's what I'll be calling it!!! I always love the magic of being in the room, collaborating together and the synergy that comes from that 🦑 i also miss filming 🥺
Between the always that we promised to each other, where we always failed to arrive, there will always going to be a lifeline - this insistence that for here, for now, after all that was done, the palm of my hand is still holding on to this joy, this tenderness, harvested anew, for you to keep.
Empress of Vancouver was the first feature project out of film school where I was lucky enough to become a Co-Editor on :O It has been an incredible journey learning and growing into this role, witnessing these amazing stories unfold and and just meeting so many wonderful souls through the making of this film. I genuinely love what we made - it’s so creatively fulfilling and I’m so proud at all the work, thoughts and love we put in. We had a sold-out theatre opening for @queerfilmfest - but you can also catch it at VIFF theatre this fall! Stay tuned 🥰
I am so excited to have my new series of works “Beacons” to be a part of Digital Intervention, a collective window show to be hosted at @massyartssociety until July 7!!!! This is my first time having my artwork in a gallery ever and to be showing with fellow talented friends @irohasena@vetosea@paigesmithfilm@yelllo.www@del.fol_der@kathyfng is such a dream - thanks for having me a part of this!!!! This weekend I made a little projection piece for Renfrew Ravine Park’s Moon Festival @stillmoonarts !!!! It was pouring rain so truly cannot make it happen without the amazing support of staffs and volunteers :) And big thank you to @katwadel and the rest of the mentorship organizers for their assistance and guidance through this process!!! It’s been surreal 🦦🦦🦦✨✨
