It’s 1990. Astronaut candidate Eileen Collins listens to a parachute ejection briefing, part of a three day survival training course hosted at Vance Airforce Base in Oklahoma. The room of candidates are asked to put their hands up if they are pilots - a whole bunch of men’s hands go up - and Eileen’s.
It was a small step, but Eileen would go on to do mighty things, fulfilling her secret childhood dreams. She would become the first woman to pilot and command a space shuttle, flying four missions in a career filled with drama.
Her documentary film SPACEWOMAN lands in select US theatres from March 20th opening @quadcinema NYC March 20th, with Eileen Collins and director Hannah Berryman attending Q&A’s there and in some other locations across the country.
