This so going to be so great. And I really hope it’s something we do regularly because it’s a big part of my thoughts and feelings on fashion and making clothes. My big push is always about how sewing my own clothes made me experience true agency and autonomy for the first time in my like. And I was like 34 when I started sewing again.
Mending clothes you loved prolongs their lifecycle, adds character and story, creates decorative interest but maybe most importantly - teaching you skills that support self-sufficiency. And while there might be “right” ways to do things - but really can just do what you want to.
We have Ana amazing group of volunteers jointing the clinic on the 23rd and we hope you’ll join us for the clothing swap and to try some mending with earnest support.

I’ve been clearing out my closet and I am scaling back big time! Good news for anyone else thinking about spring cleaning their closets - we’re hosting a clothing swap!
Bring your clean, gently worn clothing, anything you haven’t worn in a long time, anything at all really. We want all sizes, all styles - this is a size and gender inclusive swap. We have no idea how many folks will jump in on this but we’re hoping to have an amazing range of clothes for people to choose from. So drop by this week or next week and bring the clothes you’re willing to part with!
Come back on May 23rd, 10am-3pm for the Sherman Street Party and see if there’s something you’d like to take home with you.
Anything remaining will be donated to our neighbours at St. Vincent’s.

1 - MAKER’S MARKET
We’ve got artists, makers and HCS member selling their work in the studio. We’re setting up on the 3rd floor and can’t wait to introduce you to our artists.
2 - CLOTHING SWAP
Donate clean, gently worn clothes to the clothing swap and pick up some new threads for yourself. We’re aiming for an all sizes, all styles, not gendered, just overrun with things clothing swap! So go through your closet and find the things that do not spark joy - because who knows what you might find at the swap!
3 - GARMENT MENDING CLINIC
Join our volunteers in the textile studio and fix your favourite pieces up a bit. Need a hand putting on a button? We’ve got you.
4 - FURNITURE REPAIR CLINIC
Bring small wood furniture pieces and items to the wood studio and get help from our volunteers to mend, secure, and repair.
5 - CRAFT ZONE
We’re making pinwheels! But we’re not stopping there - we’re going to put out a bunch of supplies - come craft with us! All Ages - All Day
6 - MUSIC TO DRAW TO
Adrian V is bringing a stack of records to the studio and will be tending to setting the mood. It’ll probably be a good mood, peppy even. The man’s got good taste. Come hang out, do some drawings with us - I can’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon.
I’m going to post more about each of these activities over the next week. There’s so much happening that day, but this is ambitious and we’re really hoping the community can come together and enjoy HCS in a big way.
Hamilton Craft Studios is hiring two Camp Leaders to help run our Summer Craft Camp for children ages 7–12. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on mentorship, creative programming, and team coordination.
As a Camp Leader, you will guide daily activities, support a team of counselors, and ensure a safe, engaging environment where campers can explore clay, textiles, woodworking, and mixed media. You will also gain paid, structured experience in youth programming, studio operations, and leadership - with mentorship from our Executive Director throughout the contract.
This role is a great fit for someone who is confident leading groups, enjoys working with kids, and wants real career-building experience in a creative, community-focused environment.

Hamilton Craft Studios is hiring Junior Counsellors to support our Summer Craft Camp for children ages 7 - 12. This is a great early-career or first-job opportunity for a young person who loves working with kids, is curious about art and making, and wants to build experience in teamwork, communication, and youth programming.
Junior Counsellors work alongside our Camp Leaders, Artist Instructors, and Counsellors to help campers stay safe, included, and engaged throughout the day. You’ll get hands-on experience in a creative studio environment, supportive mentorship from experienced staff, and a written reference at the end of the summer.

Hamilton Craft Studios is hiring a Craftsperson / Wood Studio Technician to help run our member-facing Wood Studio and strengthen the infrastructure across all four of our studios (wood, ceramics, textiles, and general arts).
During scheduled drop-in hours, you’ll supervise members using the wood shop; greeting them, checking training, supporting safe tool use, and keeping the shop clean and well-maintained. On weekday infrastructure hours, you’ll work on tangible projects: shelving, workstations, storage systems, inventory tracking, and maintenance improvements that will continue to support HCS after your contract ends.
This is a paid, mentored, career-building role for a young person interested in skilled trades, fabrication, maker-space operations, or studio management.
