It was an honour to attend the annual awards ceremony hosted by the Hamilton Police Service at the Scottish Rite Club.
The evening was a powerful reminder of the dedication, courage, and compassion shown every day by both our officers and members of the community who go above and beyond to serve others. Was great to connect with fellow Councillors Esther Pauls and Jeff Beattie, Chief Bergen, Police Inspector John Pauls, MP John Paul Danko, MP Aslam Rana, Marco Scibetta, Sam Mercanti, Joe Mercanti, and PJ Mercanti.
Proceeds from the event were directed back into charitable initiatives that continue supporting people across Hamilton. Nights like this highlight the very best of our city - service, leadership, and community coming together for a greater purpose.
Congratulations to all of the award recipients and thank you for your commitment to keeping Hamilton strong and safe.

My visit to the Salvation Army was a powerful reminder that this organization is so much more than a thrift store, a church, or the Christmas kettles people see during the holidays.
Founded in Hamilton in 1904, the Salvation Army has evolved alongside the changing needs of our community - supporting men, women, young parents, children, and seniors by helping people overcome barriers and build a path toward stability and success.
This location offers far more than food support. Through programs like Pathway of Hope, individuals receive one-on-one guidance to help achieve personal goals and move forward with dignity and hope.
I also learned about the incredible work happening through Lawson Ministries, including the Paparella Innovative Arts Centre, music nights, independent living supports, cycling programs for all abilities, and the “On My Way” project helping people turn ideas into reality.
What stood out most was how community-focused and multi-generational this hub truly is, serving everyone from young adults to seniors 80+.
The Salvation Army remains the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in Canada, with donations making up the majority of its funding.
Special thank you to Deanna Finch-Smith, Cindy Taylor, Devon Delaney, and everyone dedicating their lives to lifting others up and strengthening our community every single day.

This project is part of a broader infrastructure upgrade focused on improving road and sidewalk conditions.
