In the beginning, there was Jack, and Jack still has a groove.
We find ourselves at a time when spaces of freedom and self-expression are once again essential to our sanity and connection to one another. At Half Weekend, we’re returning to the roots of electronic music and its cultural relevance in today’s society.
Make no mistake: house music started from rebellion. House music was created by queer and Black individuals as a direct response to the marginalization and bigotry they faced daily. It was a sanctuary, a home, a community, then and now. Unfortunately, we find ourselves in a time where hatred, racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia are not only tolerated but are publicly celebrated through the amplification of devious players in our algorithm-driven world.
At Half Weekend, we acknowledge and celebrate the rich history of electronic music in everything we do. We stand on the shoulders of giants who created movements that move and shape the world in meaningful ways. We honor this history and strive to carry this torch forward. We take inspiration from other communities (like HE.SHE.THEY) in learning how to provide spaces that celebrate these values.
Lastly, we want to make it clear that we have an ABSOLUTE ZERO tolerance policy for the following: ableism, ageism, bigotry, body shaming, homophobia, misogyny, racism, sexism, transphobia, and xenophobia.
Be kind to yourself and one another.
We are here to stay, and we’re in this together.
