Behold the creator of Universes! We sat down with the Keeper of Magic Sword and they revealed a portion of their origin story along with sharing some of their biggest inspirations.
The Keeper will be playing a rare and extended 2 hour set at our inaugural event. Be aware that we are capping the number of tickets for this and we are getting closer and closer to our event capacity. Ticket Link in Bio.
(mindFULL): We can’t thank you enough for joining forces with us for the first mindFULL! Most people know you from face melting live shows with a 3 piece band. A live Magic Sword DJ set? Where did that come from?
(The Keeper): DJing is how I first started my journey into music. I was DJing church dances with cassette players and a mixer when I was 14. I eventually got some turntables when I was 18 and that blew everything wide open for me. It fed my desire to charge music and exposed me to a lot of music that would eventually inspire me to create Magic Sword.
(mindFULL): What does DJing mean to you?
(The Keeper): I’ve always enjoyed sharing music with people. DJing is a fun way to do that and I also really enjoy trying to figure out what people want to hear next. It’s a good challenge.
(mindFULL): Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
(The Keeper): Mostly science fiction and fantasy film soundtracks from the late 70’s and 80’s. That’s when the synthesizer film soundtrack really became perfected.
(mindFULL): How would you respond to someone that told you that DJing was not an art?
(The Keeper): Probably nothing. Some art forms aren’t for everyone.
(mindFULL): We at mindFULL believe in extended sets and story telling through music. What story will you be telling during your set?
(The Keeper): I’m a big fan of really epic highs and really thoughtful lows. The story I want to tell will really depend on how people respond. Hopefully, it we be an evolving magical tale.
We’d like to introduce you to our master of design and fabrication at mindFULL. David Whitaker. He enables us to bring our visions in to reality in a conscious and beautiful way.
Welcome! We know you as a sculptor and fine art photographer, how did you get involved with mindFULL?
My involvement with mindFULL came about as an opportunity for me to expand my creative focus and to artistically collaborate with other creative people that I love. Music has always inspired me and I felt that I could meaningfully contribute to producing an event concept as exciting as mindFULL.
Where does the world of fine art and music intersect?
I view fine art as communication between the artist and the viewer—ideally it must make the viewer feel something or understand something in a meaningful way. This is what separates it from decoration that you walk past and do not notice. Music for me is the same. The intersection is where music transcends background noise and fully captivates the listener either intellectually and/or emotionally.
Who are your biggest artistic inspirations?
I am most inspired by Cindy Sherman, Louise Bourgeois, Richard Serra, and James Turrell.
What advice would you give to someone looking at getting in to collecting or getting in to it?
My advice is simple—buy any art that you feel strongly about and would want to live with. Try to see if you feel something deeply about the artist or the individual artwork.

Pace Taylor, Amtrac, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Lyle Ashton Harris, Jiang Cheng, Orville Peck, Odesza
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or anything you’d like to tell us about the future of David Whitaker?
This Fall and all next year I will be embarking on a major sculpture project ultimately destined for public display right here in Boise. I will also be closely involved in future mindFULL events. I’d like to thank my wife Tara for her trust and complete support with my creative pursuits. I also want to thank Devin and all the great friends in our community that continue to inspire me to stay involved in fine art and music experiences.

Introducing @deeveaux the person behind the curtain at mindFULL. He’ll be playing an extended 2 hour set filled with twists and turns and full of heart. We asked him about DJing and the future of the mindFULL Universe.
mindFULL. Where did this come from?
The best way to describe the source is a bolt of lightning. I was on the heels of some profound insights after focusing on making some mental and physical health changes. Clearing this mental space allowed me to see all the pieces of this event coming together like a puzzle. It felt like it came to me in a dream.
What does DJing mean to you?
DJing is my passion. DJing is the ultimate presentation of presence and connection between the joy of music and dancing. The feeling of a group of people vibrating on the same frequency cannot be matched.
Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
Too many! buuuuuut really Daft Punk, Royksopp, Honey Dijon, Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, m83, The Blaze, LP Giobbi and Bill Withers.
How would you respond to someone that told you that DJing was not an art?
I’d probably smile and yawn. Then invite them to mindFULL.
We at mindFULL believe in extended sets and story telling through music. What story will you be telling during your set?
This set will be a love letter to music. I’m harnessing my love of music and looking at this as tribute to the joy it’s brought me throughout my life.
